Hey everybody,

I have an eg hatch with an h22 in it..there is a hole in my floorboard under the center console where the shifter is at. When I pull the center console off I can see straight to the ground. My question...
Is there any piece I can put there to fill this in? It makes the inside of my car extremely loud...Im sure others have this hole as well and have found ways to cover it up that they might like to share...thanks so much!

There is normally a rubber grommit that covers that hole and goes around the shifter. You should be able to junkyard one for about nothing, or maybe get it from Honda for like 10 bucks.

 

Awesome, thats exactly what i wanted to hear! Is there anywhere to get it online? Are there different sizes or just a one size application?

you will have to get one from a prelude or accord but it most likely wont be the same, unless they cut the hole to factory size.

 

thx for the input, but if it doesnt fit...that brings me back to my original question...any ideas or suggestions as to what i can do to cover this up? anyone else encountered this..thanks again

When i bought my ej8 it was a auto to manual conversion. There was a ton of road noise and all my drinks were becoming super hot. So i went and bought some roof shingle metal strips and cut them to size and then used welding glue or whatever its called. fit to size and then covered it with a rubber pad. took all the road noise away and kept my drinks cool

thats an awesome idea, thx for the input! Ill have to look at my car when i get it back from the body shop tomorrow... only problem i see is that my hole in the floor board is where the shifter comes out and the shifter needs to be able to move?

 

when I did that I pretty much cut half moon shapes on the metal strips so it had alot of room to play but not enough to let a ton of air/noise coming through.. its really trial and error. it was just a simple diy haha

 

what about that white stuff ppl use to cover up holes in the wall...gah what's it called. I'd say put a piece of wood underneath, apply white stuff, wait for it to harden and then remove the wood. bam.

idk what some of these people are talking about but just get the shift boot for your car it dosent matter what motor shifter or linkage you have as long as its for your car it slides over the shifter then at the bottom where your hole is there is usually a small lip around it that is where the boot is going to go over and keep the air and road noise out. it is such a cheap and easy fix i dont see why people feel the need to ghetto rig it except the guy with the auto to man. swap that i understand. in the picture it is number 6 it is part number 61593 it is 12 dollars at www.hondaautomotiveparts.com look under shift lever its under there. well there ya go bud hope this helps.

now my only question is...i bought the eg one, but i have an h22 tranny with those cables coming out...will this boot fit with that setup or do i need a prelude one?

Doesn't seem like that shifter boot idea would do much to help, seeing that you have the cable operated shift mechanism from the Prelude/Accord mounted on top of your stock shifter hole. I'd say just go to any car stereo store and buy a piece of Dynamat, temporarily remove your shifter mechanisim and put it over the old shifter hole. If you're not feeling lazy then you can also put one under your car to double the effect too. Dynamat may be a bit expensive but it should help you out a bunch by keeping the road noise down and stop your exhaust pipe from transferring heat inside your car. Helpful especially during the hot summer months.

In my opinion though, seems like the roof shingle metal strips idea 'hookedonponics' was talking about might transfer heat into the cabin I think. Seeing how heat transfers through metal pretty easily. Hope this helps bro....

I know mine was a little ghetto rigged but it was a a-b car for me so I just wanted to get it done fast. although it did help a lot rather than just have exhaust heat straight up onto the cupholder\shift boot . All I cared about was noise and that my damn drinks stayed cool hahaha.

 

Yeah haha I know what you mean. It reminds me of this rusty a$$ 86' Celica GT hatchback I had a LOOOOONG time ago that had a couple fist-size holes where the shifter was. Heat would come up as if there was no tomorrow! Man, the summer months were TERRIBLE!! hahaha Eventually I abused the crap outta that car and developed a bad valve tick so I sold it for like $100. Toyotas no more for me!
