Have a 2001 DX civic. auto tranny. guess it went out... i would hit the gas and it wont move.. in D, D3 or 2. Or reverse. What could be the cause of it? trans oil is ok. It makes a whining noise also.. if that helps. I'm getting a new one coming in just wondering what could have gone wrong with this one. and no it wasn't beat up... it's my gas saving dd.

 

These are faulty by design. I'd say the average lifespan of these units is 80,000-100,000 miles, but I've seen them fail much sooner, as well as last 200,000+ miles. It's a roll of the dice.

Your options are to get another one which will inevitably fail at some point again, or do a manual transmission swap.

Your best bet is to source a junkyard for low mileage wrecks.

 

do you know how much they normally sell for? i posted a WTB on the site. checked the local craigslist and nothing. i'll hit up junk yards tomorrow. what should i expect to pay?
