Thanks everyone, I knew about the autox4u site, but its kind of poorly designed and disorganized, so I had some trouble finding the section, but I found it now.

I spoke to a few people there and it dont look good for this season
the karting track is open and autox are open but not the track

Honestly, after walking the course and seeing the issues at hand. I would NEVER run there even when it opened.
Catastrophic brake failure/overheating will lead to death on that course. After the front straight, there is a 120 degree hairpin of sorts but it's banked(13) Then this runs DOWNHILL into a 180 hairpin(1-2). Over the top of the berm that is 50 ft away from the track is the other side of the track!!!!! (you can kind of see the berm shaded darker in the picture)
(heres a link to the road course track map) if you put your mouse cursor over the track, you can get the turn numbers.

The track loops upon itself in that area and basically you (could) launch the car over the berm and be on the other side of the track. Easy to do, especially since the Civic DX on street tires (crappy Michelins at that) we were using as a test mule was reaching speeds in excess of 100mph in that area. Anything over 90HP would be just plain scary...
My proposal was possibly for a Solo 1 type course with a chicane in between 12 and 13 to slow people down and keep it safe.
We'll see what happens, but if you're in the the area, stop by that track and just look at it.... Very little runoff romm everywhere..Maybe I'm just a little over cautious, but that's what it's all about...Make sure people have a great time, but no one goes home in a box...
Any words from Mario93???
Jeff

I drove my Civic on the road course back in late December of 2001 as part of a demo for feedback with Perry and a few other guys who were in Miatas...
I think the course was too hastily designed and paved. It is unsafe in its current configuration and quite frankly, Jeff was right... people will die at that track unless major revisions are made to its design and the runoff areas. My car was in "winter" mode at the time, but after just 7 consecutive laps, my brakes were smoking and fade was pronounced. Granted, they're stock brakes, but the track is so intensive in the braking zones that people who just go to "play" will find their cars woefully inadequate, especially if the suspension system isn't up to snuff.
Also, as Jeff said, I was close to 100 mph by the first turn in area. That was spooky because just 1 major **** up and you will end up in the main entrance road. Armco barriers or not, at that speed you will go through...
... And my Civic isn't exactly a Viper... which was on the track at some point during the winter as well and the driver said he'll never run it again, for many of the same reasons. I could keep going but I can't type fast enough!

ive looked at it and thought it would be nice with less turns
however the runoff is the big issue
I thought Watkins Glen was a bit scary but there is more runoff there
we shall soon see the fate of that course
