Stripped shift linkage hole on transmission
So a hole for the shift linkage is stripped on the transmission (GSR). 1/4-1/3 of the threads are stripped and the rest are still fine. how do i go upon this? i figured i could try to buy a tap tommorrow and try to tap it since about only 1/3 or so of the threads are cross threaded/stripped it looks like and all its really doing is holding the linkage in place. What should i do!?
go one size up from the bolt you have now and drill and tap it to the new size just go to your local hardware store with the old bolt to make sure you get the right length on the new one the take your old one and measure how far in it goes into the hole then mark your bit with a piece of tape so you dont go to far then just put it all back together the other option is a heila coil just make sure the old bolt threads into the heila coil either way takes about the same amount of time it should only take you about 10-15 min to get it done

well if you just retap it and it doesnt work make sure you get a helia coil that fits your bolt and not the hole in the tranny other wise you will need to buy a different bolt
well i retapped it and i was able to salvage it! buttt my buddy said the bolt is too long and if its not the right length it will rub the diff and ruin the trans? i don't know but i ordered a new bolt from the honda dealer. I ordered one from a 99' si , figured they'd be the same. I just picked it up and its definitely alot shorter than the one thats being used right now.
