what do you guys think this is?
last night aftera couple of pulls from third gear i stopped and chilled for a while and when i was going home i noticed that my 2nd and 4th gear wouldnt go in... they would make a horrible grind noise! if i shifted slowly sometimes it would go with no grinds! has anyone experienced anything like this before? my car is a 95 civic with a b18c1
It usually is bad synchromesh (synchros) I had a buddy with an si whos 3rd gear grinded. Then when he would down shift and it would be a crappy grinding sound the whole downshift, turns out its his throw out bearing. My civic started grinding in 3rd gear when shifted into unless i let chill in neutral for e sec before puting into 3rd. Another trick is go from 2nd to fourth then immediately slide into 3rd.. But in all replace tranny not worth time or money to rebuild a tranny
Rebuild = possible warranty, like new, customizable
Used = possibly worse than the one you have now, harder to find

yeah ill check with ammco or cottman trannys but if now ill just grab an ls tranny and f**k it im sick of spending money man, i'm pretty much done with all this =[
definitly sounds like syncros to me.
the easiest way i have found to fix them is to just order the syncro/sleeve kit from gearspeed and install them yourself. As long as you are careful and pay attention to what you are taking out then a syncro change is very easy to do and minus the time of pulling the tranny should only take you about alittle more than an hour.
Also i believe the last syncro kit i bought from Gearspeed was roughly $225 shipped. Even if this is not a route you want to take it is worth to call them up and they have really good tech service which could probally diagnose your problem alot better than we can

yeah i'm currently in an automotive programs and my teachers are all master techs. one of them is a master with automtic trannys so i'm pretty sure he could help me out with my little manual! wouldn't it be better to buy all oem stuff?
Oh word? Get them to help then. OEM works...lots of stuff works...
yeah i'm not trying to pay someone do do this, i'm kinda broke right now and i just did a head gasket about a week ago, i replaced all the seals on the top end and had my head machined. So replacing the synchros is a better option for me because i know that other than that problem the tranny is good!i'll try to do everything next saturday or so!
yea dude i feel ya i just replaced my bottom end cause of rod knock the timing belt and water pump went out two weeks later now my clutch is going out on me sometime hondas are a pian lol but ya gotta love em
my 02 is dont rebuild it. If your gonna use the money to rebuild you tranny you can almost get a new motor already. If it was me i get a use one from someone trustworthy but if i had the money that you are going to use on a rebuild i'll get a new motor plus the tranny.
well i'm not gonna do a rebuild, i'm just gonna replace the synchros which will cost me about $230! i know my tranny is good other than this grinding noise! and there are no pop outs... so i rather spend 300 fixing my synchros and knowing the rest is good then to get a tranny that you don't know the story behind it! when i got this tranny the guy said it was good, no grinds and no pop outs! but i only drove it for 500 miles and there it is...
