Post radio door mod, fit your radio without cutting

as we know most after market radios for the S interfere with the door that hides the radio, mine was no exception. instead of hacking up the radio door to make it close I did a little magnet mod took a little trip to walmart, got a pack of magnets and super glue from the arts and crafts section, and just glued them to the door. this holds the door shut and spaces it out enough to not interfere with my radio.

I used the factory latch as a reference point to line up the two magnets. the only weird thing with the magnets I used is that they were polarized top and bottom, not front and back. so I glued one in place, then checked to see how to line up the second one so they would be in the right polarity and hold together.

lastly there's a spring that assists the door in opening. that spring had enough force to keep the magnets I got from holding the door closed. so I took the tension off of that spring so it doesn't fight the magnets anymore and it's perfect. here's the results...

ha ha, yeah it's nothing crazy, just a simple idea that works. had it set up this way for a while now, works well and saves you the hassle of trying to trim the door to fit.

Doesn't that make it harder to open? I mean you don't "push to open" anymore right? You have to... pull it or something?

with the magnets where they are it's spaced out enough to pull the cover from the top or side with your finger but doesn't stick out so far to look stupid. kinda accidentally worked out that way

yeah i'm looking for a new deck for my s2k. i can't believe how much they have came down in price these days. you can really get a sweet deck for under $200 what about speakers and such. i would really love to have more sound but no where to add anything.

speakers are a must...i personally think the radio in the s2k is really bad..80 mph top down and you can't hear a thing

smart thinking with the magnets, if u put two more on the other side u may not have to remove the magnets. or at a hobby store u can get alot stronger magnets. but yeah stock radio blows. i have an alpine head unit and bought some pioneer tsc720prs 6 3/4" component door speakers and an mtx amp. i cant wait to install. did a ton of research on the speakers cause i wanted something that would sound great without the addition of a subwoofer and these are supposed to be top of the line.
