Hey guys, I have a 2001 Honda Prelude base 5 speed. Lately for the past month or 2 the DRL light on the dash has been coming on for a bit then going off. I noticed that the lights would also dim and get brighter sometimes. Then recently i noticed on long drives that my abs light would come on then it would go off soon after. Then sometimes my brake light AND battery light would both come on at the same time together for no longer than 2 seconds then go off. I had the alternator changed a month ago but this has been happening before that.

Any ideas of what this could be? i greatly appreciate the help. thanks!!

 

wow, thats a wierd one. Bad grounds comes to mind firstly. I would go through all your grounds and make sure they are tight and well bonded metal to metal. Electrical related I would almost gaurentee, like poor connections or corrosion.

 

damn.. there must be tons of grounds through out the car.. where would i start?

 

Start with the easy **** first. Check the battery terminals for corrosion or loose connections. Clean them with the scraping tool regardless of condition (since it's already disconnected). Have the battery tested. From there I would start tracing down the grounds.

 

same thing was happening with my ItR, check to make sure your alternator is seated properly and tightened down. worked perfect for me after a few turns of the bottom bolts.

 

look on some wiring diagrams for any common power or grounds between the brake light wiring and the charging light wiring, those spots will most likely have a problem if they share a ground connection or a fuse position.

as for your DRL light, it sounds like a separate problem, but they could be sharing a ground or power with the other 2 circuits.

my best advice after you check the basic stuff, look over wiring diagrams for any common grounds or powers.
