I used 10w30 oil on my da b18a1,bad?or not so bad?
Yea i didnt have my manual on me so went to the auto store and the genius sed use 10 w 30 but i changed the oil and i noticed later it was 5w 30.what do you think?
no difference, but for vtec they say to use 10w30 other than that 5w30. although like said earlier they're practically the same. unless you have a hybrid that's 0w20

If you're referring to Acura as "they", then this statement is NOT true. The owner's manual and service manual recommend 5W30 as the preferred viscosity for all Integras (including the VTEC models) at all temperatures. They say you can also use 10W30 as long as the outside temperature is above 18 degrees F, but 5W30 is still preferred.
the 5 and 10 are cold flow numbers. i can't remember what temp the rating is done at but both are 30w at operating temp. some of the better synthetic 10-30s will outflow a dino oil 5-30w according to the print. i use redline 10-30 on my R motor. it also helps that i pay $5 a quart for it

5w30 and 10w30 is the SAME viscosity at operating temperature. If your engine leaks oil, it will leak oil just the same with either weight when the engine is hot. Using 10w30 to reduce engine leaks is really just a myth, unless you ONLY drive your car while the engine is cold and NEVER let it completely get up to operating temperature. If that's the case, get ready to rebuild the engine soon.
I use 5w30 year round in my 275K mile GS-R for one main reason: less wear during cold startup. Over 80% of engine wear occurs during cold startup before the oil gets up to full operating temperature. So really, there isn't really much of a point in using 10w30 IMHO.

5w30 is recommended for motors under 70k miles 10w30 would be good for motors over the 70k.
if it says 5w30 on manual

If you want to keep engine wear to a minimum, use 5w30 or hell, use 0w30. The oil with the thinnest cold viscosity that has the correct hot viscosity (30w in our case) is best. I haven't seen much 0w30 oil in my area, so I use 5w30 Valvoline MaxLife synthetic blend.
Recommended by whom? I just checked the level of 5w30 in my 275K GS-R, and after about 3500 miles since my last oil change, the oil level is about 1mm below the upper hole on the dipstick.
