Default 87 crx si in critical condition!

ok guys, im deff a newbie here!..im more of a modern mopar guy
i went out on a limb and bought a 87 Crx SI for 300 bucks! which was a good deal(thinkin at the time)...as im driving it home..its starts overheating...stop at a friends shop and i deff need a new radiator, and it looks like i have a blown head gasket!..the person who had it before me did a mickey mouse job with wiring!! i dont kno if its from the audio stuff he tried putting in or whatever!!...so anyways its been sitting for over a week and i took off the pos/neg wires off the battery....so i go back to the rex..hook up the pos..then as i get to the neg i get a bunch of crazy sparks!!!!! and so i just finally hooked up the neg completely and something busts with smoke!!!!..and i know what it was..heres a pic to help u understand what im talking bout!..

as u can see i replaced the busted one..and even the new bracket busted as well!!!!

so if u could help me with the wiring issue..or what it can be PLEEASSEEE HELP!!!!!! im thinkin what did i get myself into!!! and also what would u do if u were in my position...i just wanna get this thing running again! and have some fun!!!
i need any and all advice!!! im in the los angeles area so if anyone is around and willing to help ..pls pm me!! thanks! - joe

you are going to have to trace the entire wiring to see what he added where and what is causing your fuseable link (bracket?) to keep popping..

ok it sure sounds like the battery was hooked up backwards.for the main fuse so blow is a MASSIVE power to ground short like a battery.also when that happens the alt will internally short and will cause all kinds of fun things to happen.first off remove the pos connection from the alt and them reconnect the battery and see if the main fuse blows if it does not pop them you have narrowed down the problem to the alt.

Yup, sounds like the battery was hooked up backards... Don't think the wire on the link had anything to do with it, because there's no fuse in the holder.
