You can pull out the blower without pulling the whole dash. You only need to take out the glove box and you can see and pull it out by undoing some 10mm hex bolts and one clamp holding the blower assembly to the evaporator coil section.

It sounds like you might have a stick or leaf in there.

Of all the vehicles I've owned, this is one of the easiest. Last week on my 91 wagon I replaced my heater blower with amazing ease.
The shop near me quoted 1.8 hours @$110 per hour, that's just for the re & re of the heater.
And because I mentioned I have A/C add another 1.2 for a total of 3 hours @$110.
The only tricky part is releasing the electrical connectors.

The only tools you'll need are,10mm deep socket, short extension, ratchet, and a properly sized Phillips screw driver.

If you want complete instructions drop my a note and I'll word straight out of the manual.

I have this very same problem. My motor was acting funny for a long time making wierd noises so I figure its probably that. I was having to slap under the glove box to get it to work as well. My question is, I cant seem to get the cover out from underneath the dash. its pinned and wont slide down or in either direction but 1". Is there a secret to getting the thing in half? I see a white piece on the right upper side with screws in it but I cannot get to it. Am I doing something wrong?

well i took mine out which aint easy. first you have to take out 2 bolts on the side of the dash and remove the glove compartment. then take out the bolts holding the heater box on so what it is is a big black box with a fan in it. i cleaned it and put it back in and it still makes the ticking sound and you have to touch the fan to get it going. so i am just going to replace the whole dam box.. not unless i could figure out how to rebuild the motor. which it probaly would be a waste of time

Yea I'm gunna atempt a fix or replace it. It has completely stopped working at this point so I have no heat. I'm starting here because that noise drives me crazy. It has power and everything so im sure its bad. Hopefully thats all thats gone wrong. I appreciate the advice man i was gunna loosen the dash but I thought that wouldn't help after looking at it. I'll get back out there and let you know what happens.

yes just make sure all the bolts are loose. i think there was 3 bolts holding the whole thing on. its lookes like more but theres not. and the bolt on the metal bracket which is tricky to get back on. but once everthing is loose just pull on it and pull your dash back as far as it will go . i actually heard my dash crack. in a spot but no worrys its fine. and just pul the whole box out. and thats it ..just remember how everything fits back in .also theres 3 plugs on it take a flat head screwdriver and unplug them
