Default 2005 Honda Civic Ex blown headgasket

Hello I'm just wondering how the 01-05 civics are holding up? My sister in law was having problems with her heat. She took the car to the dealer because it only has 65,000 miles on the car. They did an oil change a week earlier but didn't top up the coolant but recommended she spend $100 to change her cabin air filter ( I laughed till I cried) then told her to bring me the car to change the filter in 5 minutes. At the same dealer visit they said it may be a blown headgasket or thermostat. She took the car back to them and they told her it was a headgasket What???. The car is under warranty so the job is free but it doesn't sit right in my mind. The car is automatic. the driver is 35 years old single female. only drives 20 miles to work everyday and to church on weekends, and does a hell of a lot of shopping. Can anybody shed some light or info, I think the dealer just wanted some work to do, IMO. thanks sorry for the long post

Well you say she has problems with the heat..well we need more info. Does the car overheat at all? is she losing coolant? more info than we can help out...I dont think an auto with no mods at 65k miles is going to have a blown HG...def have her get another option...

Maybe if it overheat the HG could blown.

But I drive my 01 civic without any water in the radiator (radiator broke due drunk driver) for around 40 mins. The engine super overheat and drop RPM's to some 2500 max. Then tow the civic to home, change the radiator, fill it and still running after some 15k miles and having fun with 60hp shot of NOS.

A cabin air filter is like $27 at advance auto parts. And like the other guy said if its free let it be. Especially if you have 65k mite as well. I wish I could get like a 200000 mile warrenty because Honda never die unless u don't keep up with it.

Thanks for all the input. Don' t know if there was massive coolant loss but the dealer should

have seen this and at least said something between the three separate visits to the dealer. I

myself personally think it's the dealer because times are slow and mechanics get desperate.

Also with the cabin air filter is bullshit as mechanics we only get .3-.4 an hour for an oil

change which involves hell of a lot more work than replacing a honda cabin air filter which

someone was about make .6-.8 an hour. This is why I currently hate my profession the labor

rates are getting less and less. All the power has gone to the pencil pushers and whinney ***

customers. But no use complaining, time to sleep.
