OT: Hyundai Genesis R-Spec
Ok, nothing on the car market has given me any kind of excitment lately. Even after the E30, ITR, GSR, Prelude days, nothing has really caught my eye. I stumbled onto the Hyundai Genesis Coupe site--a site I thought I'd never be on. It has a lot of promise. Then I read about the R-Spec due out for the 2010 model year. Some of the specs seem awefully familiar.
The R-Spec will take its mechanicals from the 2.0T Track, making it turn, brake and handle better, though certainly ride harder, than other models. The hydraulic steering will be quicker. Brembo brakes will do the stopping, with 13.4-inch front and 13-inch rear ventilated rotors and red 4-piston calipers at each corner. The racetrack-tuned suspension will feature higher-rate coil springs, firmer shock absorbers, an additional front strut brace and thicker front and rear stabilizer bars (25 mm front and 22 mm rear). The tires will be summer performance Bridgestone Potenzas, P225/40YR19 up front and P245/40YR19 at the rear, on gunmetal-finish alloy wheels. A Torsen limited-slip differential will also be standard.
To reduce weight and price, the R-Spec will not have several of the features of the Track or even the base model. Compared to the base model, the R-Spec will lack automatic headlights, cruise control, a trip computer, chrome interior accents, steering-wheel audio controls and a Bluetooth hands-free cell phone link.
No standard safety features will be lost, though. Safety equipment will include front side and curtain side airbags, active front head restraints, traction control, electronic stability control, a tire-pressure monitor and anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist.
Other standard features will include air conditioning, driver’s seat lumbar adjustment, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift ****, power windows, power door locks, power mirrors, an AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo with six speakers, an iPod interface and USB and auxiliary input jacks. The R-Spec will be available in three colors: Karussell White, Bathurst Black and Tsukuba Red.
Seems like a modern day RWD turbo ITR. I'm very very excited for this to hit the dealerships. Anyone else wander over to the "other H"?

What's the point of that pic? Yes, idiots can still wreck, no matter what they're driving.
Ryu - word. Thefts just make an ITR ownership a constant nightmare. (I guess a Honda in general).

I want to see a weight figure. I really doubt they'll get it under 3,000 lbs.. and imo with 210hp stock, for it to really grab my attention I'd want to see 2,800-2,900 lbs..
Newer systems either deploy the bags at a lower rate, or not at all, when seatbelts are not in use because they can cause MORE damage to the person in the car. Airbags are designed to be used with a seatbelt, when the seatbelt isn't used the airbag doesn't help at all, and as I said (and as others have said) make the situation worse.

yall are just hatin' man.
atleast hyundai is stepping up their game.
a lot of us would kill for a stock boosted teggy with RWD or atleast a 2.0 block.
a lot of you rock aftermarket bling steering wheels that don't have airbags anyways, and/or removing your airbag and replacing it with that EDM airbag tray.
egh..whatever. hate if you want. lol

Never said you wrote the article. I said you should get your facts straight.
That's interesting. Would you mind posting that section of the manual? Studies have shown that the body injuries are more severe with an airbag only.

Also, at low speeds, airbags can be even more dangerous as one study reveals.
Airbags, however, cause no statistical difference in car-crash deaths, except for unseatbelted occupants at low speeds, where the odds of death are estimated to be more than four times higher with an airbag than without.
my civic owner's manual says the opposite; if the seatbelt isn't worn during an accident the airbag goes off harder (both stages go off at once instead of 1 by 1). hitting an airbag without a seatbelt is much better than flying out the windshield or hitting the steering wheel.

Here's little more info.....

....IMO the ITR will always look better. No way to really compare a RWD with a FWD apples to apples. If I had 24 grand to buy one new, I'd spend it on something else. The other "H" is turbo though. Might be at least a fun test drive.

You could buy the Rhys Millen's drift car that weighs in around 2,400 lbs. :D
