Stock housings are not meant to house HIDs, they are meant for halogen bulbs. I reccomend getting some projectors.

yes, retrofitting projectors would be a good idea, and give you the best light output without risking blinding other drivers.

the hids themselves do not run hotter than standard halogens. in fact they're generally around 35 watts, and thus about half the wattage of stock lights. therefore they produce much less heat.

No, they'll fit, they're just like a regular bulb, it just wont look good. Get projectors bro.

HIDs arent designed to reflect off the housings like halogen bulbs are. They're meant to be concentrated thru a projector lens.

what happens if you swap out lenses? put a HID bulb into the stock headlight but swap out the projector lens instead of the stock one with the guiding lines?

yes retrofitting is a better idea....but the hid kit will still work in stock housing...like said the hid actually burns at a lower temperature than halogen cause they run like half the watts of a normal halogen bulb....but anyways heres my 10000k i installed in my stock housing...my kit is a PnP kit i bought off ebay...a cheapo kit for like 80 bucks shipped...

ahhhhh damn MASSIVE GLARE in this thread!!!! I've seen halogen bulbs like Osram Night Breaker H4's that put out more light than the 10,000 and 12,000K shown in here.

And yes, some cars came with HID in reflector housings, but again, those housings were designed for use with HID bulbs. But even still, HID reflector headlights are not as good as quality HID projectors.

true, but it is also quite possibly that the camera doesn't know how to compensate for the one bright point of light in the picture and in the process of taking the picture it overcompensates and makes it look a lot brighter than it actually is. i have 6k's in my stock housings and they look nothing like the glare seen in those pictures.

i would also agree that 10 and 12k lights are stupid to have, but not because they have more glare. they are actually less bright than hids with a lower number color temperature rating. 10 is way too blue, and 12 is like violet purple, neither of which makes it easy to see much of anything on the road at night in comparison to decent halogens or 4100k-6000k hids.

At least adjust the lights down if you're gonna run them in stock housings

You need a 55W HID kit for your highbeam lamps. Teach those inconsiderate punks what "glare" really is when you flash them. Bonus points for using a 3000K kit, to confuse them even further ("It can't be HIDs, they're not white!").

Bi-xenon lows + 55W HID highs = the blinding light of almighty God reaching through the parted clouds.

Note: I do NOT condone (and will actually yell at you for) running a HID kit in a halogen reflector housing as the main lamps. But, highbeams aren't legal to use when there's other traffic anyway, so go for it.
