Default getting the axle splines back into the tranny?

i had to replace my left side axle on my EP, the axle is in the hub, control arms back on, and its in the tranny except for about 1 inch. yes, i have replaced axles before, but never had this much trouble, and obv i do not want to tear the boot... any suggestions for knocking that sucker in?

you've just gotta keep trying...try using a block of wood and position it on the solid part of the axle and smack it with a dead blow.
