first post in auto-x forum...
i just did a advanced driving course at H.A.R.T (Honda Advanced Roadcraft Training) and it was AWESOME!!!!
skid pan, witches hats, reversing, slalom, braking exercises etc
the guys said it was a lot like what we in Australia call a 'Motorkhana' - which is what an auto-cross is??? is this right?
i have a 83 lude with B16A and was having front end issues - it was pushing alot past the corners under power.
they said a bigger rear sway bar will help as well as more castor on the front.
is this the way to go?
also a front tower brace - but no-one does this for a 83 lude, is it worth getting a custom one made up?
thanks

r2x ~ who thinks that if one can drive a "stock" car fast, than one is a VERY good driver.

If I had to wager a guess, your pushing through the corners was due to not slowing down enough before entering them. Slow in; Fast out. I believe most people will recommend you try braking a little sooner for the corner before you spend money on the car. Also, knowing it's FWD, I believe it's just going to push some. Good luck with it.

PS you should have seen the instructors drive a stock 02 civic, like it was on rails!!!
I wouldn't worry about going faster than...anybody right now. Worry about improving you. You'll hear that line a lot here - so much so that you might think it's either a cliche or we're making fun of you. It isn't, and we're not.
I would strongly suggest that you run a full season - maybe more on your current equipment. You might be slow and undercompetitve - don't let that discourage you. Instead, use it as an opportunity to learn. Once the skills are there, not only will you be a better driver, you'll also have a clue what to purchase for the car (many people do not have said clue) to make it better. And once said part(s) are on...you'll be better equipped to understand how the change affected the car and your times.
Make sense?

r2x and krshultz pretty much said it all. Modify the nut behind the wheel first. Just to add my two bits, finding the right tire pressures can help with steer characteristics (although your problem might have been what r2x said, too hot on the entry).
i must admit that as the day progressed i was able to use the throttle to control the attitude of the front end much more than i had actually expected.
it was like nothing i had ever experienced on the road though,
it is a very steep learning curve for the first 50% then it would slowly flaten off untill you reach 80% and hte next 20% would be hard to perfect...
the instuctor said that most can easily drive at five tenths and some can easily drive at nine tenths but hardly anyone can drive easily at ten tenths!
anyways,
thanks for your responses guys/girls,
it is clear that the best improvemnet will be gained from PRACTICE!!!

You've got the idea...that practice will be your best modification. This is a long and addictive road you're going down. Enjoy

Forgive me, but...that's sort of the *point* of competition driving
