Default Anyone else find the stock 99-00 si clutch weak?

Because frankly if I had one major complaint about my car that would be it.

I don't think I would be able to chirp second no matter how hard I tried. Just 5 minutes ago I went for a quick run. 1st 8000RPM shift to 2nd no tire noise, just a couple hundred rpm of clutch slip...

And I don't beleive it's a worn clutch, It never slips any other time.

Our clutches are not very good but the type of tires you have makes a difference too. When I had the stock Michelins the car would easily chirp going into 2nd. I now have Kumho Supras and it is impossible to chirp going into second.

I'm using stock michelins.... hmmm maybe I'll check tire pressure tomorrow. I'm pretty sure it's good though.

Point is, I'd rather the tires take the damage then have the clutch slipping.

It's strange that you can't make the stock tires chirp. Is the car's suspension completely stock? Also, did you buy the car new or used? Maybe the first owner rode the clutch too much. A friend of mine is having to replace his clutch on his 2000 Si because he basically kept his foot on it too much.

Of course, I've had other people drive my car and they can't chirp going into second either. But I've driven other people's cars and have been able to chirp going into second. I always do it at the beginning of an autocross course. The owners always want to know what I'm doing because they can't even make their own cars chirp but for some reason I am able too.
Maybe I have a gift.

isnt chirping just a loss of power cause you dont need to chirp its just a loss of traction ....someone correct me if im wrong.....si trannies are weak also imo i got mine rebuilt and it had only 32000 miles on it...i can chirp 2nd easy and sometimes third on steelies....

LOL

ok guys, let's straighten something out here. I don't give a **** about chirping 2nd. Somehow this turned into that though.

I just wanted to know if anyone elses clutch slips on that shift.

Oh, and about the power thing. I believe you would be losing more power when your clutch slips then you would when the tires spin for a split second.

My 99 Si clutch has 61,000 miles on it and it doesn't slip at all from 1 to 2. If that helps you any.
