im staying with 17's. cuz thats what came on the car and it would look weird with bigger or smaller rims on it. i also have 225's which is what the new gto's come with stock =P

 

looks aside id have to say 16x8 which is also factory height for the base civic

my next wheel set up btw is going to be just that.

im rubbing my 17x8 in 225s. volk CE28s here i come!!

 

It's always been my understanding that if you want peak performance in acceleration and handling you need a sticky tire with a big sidewall. Not exactly sure how accurate this is, considering the porsche GT3 (voted best handling car in America by motortrend) has 18s with Pilot Sport Cups.

I'd stick with the 17's an upgrade your tires. I'm sure plenty of people on here will give you pretty good tire reviews.

I'm assuming you're talking about the 996 gt3 and not the 997 gt3 that rolls on 19's. If you want more responsiveness for handling you'd actually want more rim and less sidewall (less deflection from the tire under lateral loads). For example, the WRC rally cars have small diameter rims and fat tires for gravel rallies while for tarmac rallies they have larger diameter rims and lower profile tires. However, there's also a limit to how little of a sidewall you can run. For the civic I'd say 18" rims at largest and nothing samller than a 40 series sidewall.

Also, it's not so much the rim as it is the tire that has a lot to do with grip. It wouldn't matter if you had a set of light weight racing wheels if you didn't have a tire that had grip.

i just bought another set not to long ago. theyre on my car now. look at the last page of the pic thread.

 

i have had the stock Micheline tires on my car and they were not good at all. then had fuzion HRI 215/50/17 and they were better when it came to comfort and more traction in a strait line but side walls gave in really easy on turns. now i have 225/45/17 kumhos asx and they are great. the tires grip pretty good through turns and ripping it through low gears. the comfort and noise level is better then the stock Micheline tires. don't know if that helped but hey i gave my input on tires. i kept 17' because that is the stock rim size that came with the car and i played around with tire sizes and 45 side wall is the highest i want to go.

 

i didn't realize they had more than one submodel of ziex; it was the 512's that're discontinued. i had them on my integra before and couldn't find a replacement set.

The stock size on the GTO is 245 section width and the upgraded 18" wheel has a 235 width tire not sure what you are talking about.

Also I don't understand what everyone is saying on this and previous thread and posts about the stock 17 and smaller wheels being better performers. Thats why you buy good racing wheels which are light.

And as far as the stock 17's being being better because that's what the car came with. What about the Mugen and the HFP 18's that comes on our cars from the factory? Also when you look at tuners and company's like AMG, M, Saleen, Roush, SVT, Nismo, they always add a plus one or two wheel package? It's a cost thing, clearly there are better wheels and tires for our cars than the 17's that they come with. I don't get all you rice lovers that are saying how dumb or not good larger wheels would look on these cars. Civic owners are the ones that started putting 17's and large wheels on little cars and modifying DD's and started the little tuner revolution. And now you people say nah 17's and big wheels do not help..

I don't know how that one guy in this thread said he was rubbing with 17's with 225 width tires. He must of had a terribly wrong offset.

I just put on 19"x8" HFP with 55mm offset with 245/30/19 and no spacers. I couldn't get a straight answer from anyone on this site whether or not they would fit but they did

16 an 17s is my opinion they make some really good tires and tire sizes for them would be you best choice

 

You called me a douche and this is all you had to say.....Wow....You can get your awsome 16 inchers on a honda fit, so that must be the wheel diameter of choice for high performance cars. Oh wait, why do sports cars use 18" on up to 20" as in the case of GTR, Corvette ZR-1, porsche carrera GT? Because they are better for the purpose. Acura NSX's had 15 and 16 inch wheels front and back respectively in the early 90's and look what happened as technology progressed. Now the trend is big....Read something bro

You want the smallest diameter wheel that will clear the brake caliper. Unless you are leaving the door open for a BBK this means a 16" wheel.

FYI, the heaviest part of the wheel/tire combo is the tire and the further you push this weight away from the axis the more performance takes a hit. Braking distance increases as well as acceleration.

Additionally, just because the tire is physically wider doesn't necessarily mean that you will get more of a contact patch either.

get brembo oe rotors, hawk hp pads, braided stainless steel lines, and some higher temp brake fluid, 16x7.5 enkei RPF1's and 215/45/16 Falken RT615, Skunk2 ProS coilovers with custom spring rates (10k/8K), SKunk2 Rear camber arms and a EX front swap bar and call it a day.

NO, Because they have bigger brakes and the car needs tire options that aren't available in 15 and 16 inches dip shiznit.

 

My wheel and tire package weighs the same as my 17 wheels and tires.....exactly....My Yokohoma tires weigh 22lbs according to tire rack they are 245/30/19. That is the same as my oem 17's

 

why are you comparing your honda civic to a rwd super car? dont you think you should be looking at what the people autoxing,road racing etc with the same car as you are running and go from there? skunk2 has two 07 si's running in grand-am this year instead of comparing it to a zr-1? god your posts make me nauseous
