if you could buy built blocks for a fair price!
ok so i was thinking, no one really offers short blocks built and ready for drop in. if i was to provide this as a honda tech exclusive, what would be a good price to pay? i would offer a all motor setup and a boosted setup. Give me some feed back on what you guys would want as far as piston/rod/bearing combos.
pistons: wiseco, ross, mahle, je, manley
rods: eagle, carrillo, manley, pauter
bearings: acl, clevite
Please list sleeved or not, compression ratio, and bore size.
WE CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT!!

sleeved or not sleeved? what compression ratio? what bore? there are so many factorsand options, is why no one stocks an item like this,
Pistons: Wiseco
Rods: Carrillo H22 A Rod
Bearings: Honda
Bore: Darton M.I.D sleeve - 89mm
Stroke: 95mm Honda H23/F22 crank
Compression Ratio: 11.5:1

Laskey racing and EXospeed sometimes have prebuild motors. Trying to stock a motor will typically result in a loss.
If you want to advertise, you might want to pay some sponsor money and post in the FS forums for more feedback too.

We normally have 4-5 sleeved blocks ready for assembly instock for SR's. We actually have 2 1000+hp SR longblocks instock fully assembled ready to go. We just started shelving B and K-series sleeved blocks and most parts ready to go too. But then again having a CNC machine and all the tools to do boring and final line hone helps also. We find it key to have these things ready to go at all times. I think we have the fastest turn around time at about 1-1.5 weeks for a fully sleeved assembled short block.
Who says there arent any "ready built" blocks available out there.
Alot of companies that are on HT have been doing them for years.
In my opinion, in the Honda racing world, you really cant have done blocks sitting there and EXPECT everyone to just want that EXACT setup. Everyoen has their own preferences, budgets, choices on brands, etc.
There are so many factors that come into mind that its not RIGHT to build a block that would fit everyones needs.
First of all, clearances change from a street car, race car, all motor, turbo, methanol, gas, etc. I dont know about other engine builders, but for us, we ASK each customer what theyre using their engine for. You have to build the engine to the needs of that customer. You dont build a turbo motor and expect a 10psi turbo kit car and sell the same motor to the guy boosting 35psi on race gas.
When it comes to rods, pistons, rings, etc, theres alot of combinations that customers want. We've tried to have ready built motors in the past, but what happens is that the next guy that calls, wants different rods, different pistons.
So our solution was to just have ready SLEEVED blocks, unfinished(no final bore) and wait what the customer wants as far as internals and put it together like that.
Another thought we had was if the block was already put togehter, you realyl dont want it sitting there for weeks(if its not sold). We prefer the block to be freshly built. Yes it does have its delays, but the customer has to deal with that.
For the years we've been doing race engines, there's not 1 month that you're going to get an EXACT same build for 1 customer and be the same for another. There's so many factors such as what block they want to use. B16, B18A, B18C. Then you have one guy wanting 81mm bore and the next 84mm. Someone likes a low compression 9:1 turbo block, and another wants a 11:1 flat top piston.
You do your best to accomodate for everyone, but in reality, you cant. There's so many combinations with B, H, K, D series engines. You just have to set yourself up the best you can.

I am bulding my block next year and it includes...
Benson Sleeved 83mm B18c1 Block
CP 9:1 Pistions
Manley Turbo Tuff Rods
ACL Race Bearings
Some say weisco, cp, je, but its what ever you get the best deal on really. Same with the bottem end for eagle, pauter and manley. How ever manley and pauter are the best for 600whp+

I think it could be done, but you'd still have to be flexible. You could have various grades (for budget purposes) from basic street to medium to race. Have three of each (turbo or NA) and put the best combos together. Depending on your business progression you'd have various amounts of empty blocks ready to go that are sleeved.
Keep with one or two good piston and rod makers so you could get a "discount" with those vendors and maybe pass the savings on to the customers.
My build was a medium build B16a, but no sleeves. I would have gotten sleeves if I took the motor out. Rods are Crower, pistons are SRP. I chose this setup because of a good parts that would take abuse from regular DD and the occasional road race, but mostly autox and will not go above 500whp.
