Accord Type R? Accord SIR?
Hi, as somebody wrote before: stupid question: is there a Accord Type-R?or an Accord SIR? Whats the diference to the EX? Does anybody know where can I get info on Type R Accord and SIR Accord? Thanks in advance.

accord type r are the euro R 98 accord with a h22 type s motor. 94-95 sir are the edm and jdm models with h22 in them. 96-97 sir have the f20b. they also have other options.

the ATR(accord typeR) has a totaly different body from the 5th gen US accords.
the Sir and the US accord parts are, for the most part interchangable
They made them in sedans, CD6
and coupes, CD8
both of those have the h22 with about 200hp
the ATR also had the h22 but at 220hp
the regular accords in Japan had the f20b

if it doesnt bolt on directly(minus very light mods)
then i would consider that as different.
none of the body can really be swaped over easily

So, non of this two fellas were sold in the USA? I have seen some Accord pics with the SIR emblem, if not imported they should be just emblems added to a normal accord...right?

There are no SIR's that were sold from Honda in America.

I wonder now if an Accord EX (Like my Vteco) can be swaped to a Type R or SIR...on apparence at least and of course with all limitations...I can see on the specifications chart mechanical diferences such DOCH, vented disc brakes with twin pistons, the tranny, plus the Recaro Seats and Momo steering...

ive also read on a few websites that the 94-95 sir where built in the states and then shiped to europe and japan
maybe someone has read this also??

not sure about that, but it would make sense
cause the US plants already have the h22 sitting around from the prelude
and the body is would be the same, even the RHD too,
because, im pretty sure that the US plants made the accords for Canada as well.
dam if that were true...WHY COULDNT WE GET THE H22 IN OUR ACCORDS!!!!

shipping is expensive, and getting it registered street legal will take time and money.
for some just doing the swap is just easier.
but Canada on the other hand might be a bit easier, and if
you live close enough you can just drive there and pick it up

The SiR's were built right next to yours and mine in the Ohio plant. Shitty that we can't get our hands on them. As for just selling the SiR here, everything from emissions to safety would have to be ditched and brought to US specs, hence why a $2-3000 Accord in Japan turns into a $10-13,000 project to get it legalized in the US.
Just be happy with what we got, if you want, swap an H22 and call it a day. Bout as close to a JDM SiR you're gonna get without dropping serious dime.
