oil catch can installation on b20 vtec
do i have to drill a hole next to the knock sensor on the b20 block to install the oil catch can or is there another way.. i've seem picture where they just drill on the valve cover need help..... can't find any good post online
There is two large plugs on the back side of the block. There are fittings and seal-washers you can buy that replace those plugs. This will proide with two hose fittings to connect the block to the catch can. Then from the can you an either vent to atmosphere (illegal) or run a third line to the PCV valve and into the manifold... Here's a pic of the components...
BTW: I would not want steel-wool rusting up inside of the catch can. Especially if you have a drainback installed. I've heard of using that plastic materal from a shower scrubby. That sounds better IMO...

Great pic IT Guy! That really shows what's what...
SDyang, people usually mod the valve cover to run a second catch can. No sense drilling, welding and plumbing your valve cover unless really NEED the block to breath. At that point it should be a race car (not street), so there's no problem venting to atmosphere...

Dumb questions!!!! There are 2 fittings on the side of the catch can does it matter where these two hose connect to the block and which way to connect the pcv valve because it goes on 1 way only right????

Ok just installed my moroso catch can and 1 line from the back of the block, was getting tuned last night and oil started coming out the can. We had to drain it 3 or 4 times. Is this normal? Or do i need a drain back?
can you explain?
ive been waiting to put my block ports in since im burning a little oil, and only have a valve cover breather right now.

When you only use the block fittings for the vent, the crank case pressure will get behind volumes of oil on acc/dec's and push it into the can. If you don't have a drain back it will fill up and over flow quickly.
I drain my can once a year and it has very little in it. This is also a can setup that vents to the atmosphere though.

WTF are you talking about? Look at the picture...2 -12AN from the VC to the catch can which is a moroso can I modified. The can comes with a drain valve if you wish. I removed it and just put a plug in the bottom, I remove, drain and clean the can once a year before I put the car away. Draining back the oil and moisture would be the last thing I would want going back into my motor.
yeah i realized my mistake...at first i wasnt sure if that was your car, now that i see you only have a VC vent i know why you dont need a drain back.
