d4 light
Here are some options. I have noticed many 92 models that need the ECU replaced. If you contact the dealer (parts department) they will tell you which one you need that operates several function including the transmission. All cars have several different control units. It is found under the seat or in the floorboard??? on the passengers side, If I remember right. However, usually when the indicator is stuck in D4 the trans defaults to safety(2nd gear) it will not shift out of second and starts in second however there is no problem with the tranny at all. I have seen this in several cars. We replaced the ECU for about $460. If you can live with it and the car continues to work then I would do nothing. It might just be the start of an ECU issue. I know of an auto shop that replace the trans three try's until they figured out its was electrical and not mechanical.

I wouldn't unless it really bothers you to the point you want to spend that much money. Secondly if it is working fine, I would wait until it quits working and replace it then. It should not leave you stranded just driving slow.
