95 accord ex vtec wont activate
I have a 95 Accord EX vtec (f22a4). Im not sure what is wrong but the vtect doesn't kick on at all... also the redline on the cluster is at 6500 but the rev limiter kicks on a 5000. Im thinkin it may be the ecu but someone said that it might be the wire hookin up to the ecu as well and their may be a safety that reduces the max RPM (im not too sure about this). Does anyone know what the problem is? I have plenty of oil pressure and the car gets up to speed.
ok, the f22a4 is a non vtec engine.

maybe that is the problem why it is not kicking in.

it's weird he says its a 95 ex and it has that engine in it. Almost like someone just swapped one in if they blew the original and then sold it. Unless for some reason they put it in there.
ok... i took a look and the block says f22a4 on it... but it has a vtec head and the vtec actually kicked in through 1st and 2nd gear but nothin after that... it just happened tonight. i heard/felt it go. so if anyone has any info i'd appreciate it. Cuz after 2nd nothin happened it just wound out. so im really stumped.
also the original burned out and it was a vtec and supposedly the same motor was put in it. so i dont know whats goin on but the vtec kicked tonight for the first time... wonder if there is a problem with the oil pressure since there is a small leak under the vtec solenoid... -.-

i have an automatic 96' accord with the f22b motor, its vtec for sure, but it wont let me go pass 5k rpm, i have a k&m intake, i wanna know if my car has a rev limiter or something, at first i though maybe cuz my car is automatic it wuz normal for the computer not to let it go pass 5k rpm until i took my grandma's automatic hyundai accent all the way up to 7k when the redline is 6500rpm, also i wanna know if putting a "high performance ship" would do any good, please answer im trying to fix up my car but im trying to find out if its worth it (motor is in great condition, runs like new but its kinda slow)
Well, the automatics definitely are not held down as compared to the manuals. Mine I take to redline, when I shift through the gears myself, the rev limiter is about 6 and 1/2 (I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure it is).
well what you wanna do is actually get a chip writing program and mod it yourself for best results... if this is beyond you find someone that knows enough about it to help you. i have a friend that does this all the time on his boosted '00 civic. so he's hookin me up with writing the chip... you might have to get a civic ecu to be able to chip it out. but you can write in your fuel maps and all that stuff... tough thing about accord ecu's is there aren't many (if any) chip kits for it... -.- www.moates.net - good info good prices

To tell someone that they can just go out and chip there own car and throw a base map ROM in it, is very misleading. There is a lot more to it than that if you want to be safe and reliable.
It's not quite so simple as to burn a chip with some random base map on it and voila your done. You are going to need a dyno to tune the base map. Or at least a good many hours street tuning. And don't forget about all of the tuning equipment that is required as well. Laptop, Wideband O2 setup, Datalogging capability and ROM editing software.
If you are going to street tune it yourself, try to find a long stretch of road out in the boonies that you can see for miles and isn't very busy. And always remember the speed limits. That's what makes it hard to completely tune on the streets. WOT runs in a residential neighbourhood are also a bad idea. I'm sure the neighbours won't like it too much that your trying to do WOT pulls up and down the streets.
