I turn the ignition to accessories.... all the lights come on.. they all stay on including the CEL.. doesnt flick off after a couple seconds like its supposed to.
Then I turn the key to start the car, and it wont even crank. You can hear the relay clicking and the fuel pump priming thats it. Does anyone know what I should check for?? need help asap. Im also gettin codes 6 and 10.

 

ten is iat, i think 6 is temp sensor, you can double check in the faq's. do you hear atleast a click from the starter?

 

There isnt even a click from the starter.. and if the CEL stays on does that mean my ecu isnt getting power? I get spark and i get gas.. but even with the ecu unplugged dont you still get both?? Or could the ecu not be grounded right? ANYONE know which grounds I should be checking and where they are located? I ALSO Have my battery ground going to where the tail lights wires are grounded and I have the ground on my vavle cover going from the back of my valve cover to the strut bolt.. are they good grounds?

 

BUT THEN AGAIN.. the ecu is flashing codes 6 and 10 so that means its getting power so there cant be a problem with the ecu??

 

I'd do a hard reset (diconnect battery for 10 seconds) & see if those codes return. Neither of those codes would stop the car fron starting & running.. I would also check for for battery voltage at the starter solenoid when the ignition switch is in the start position.

im thinking its the ground on the thermostat housing or wires that go to it..
does anyone know what wires ground to the thermostat housing and what they are for?

my car doesnt crank.. like that starter is getting no juice
my cel stays on the whole time.
if i jump the starter my car still doesnt want to start
im pullin codes 6 and 10.. could that be because of the thermostat ground?

one thing at a time, mang. Your computer throwing codes won't affect the ability of the starter. How did you "jump the starter"? If you isolate the starter and nothing happens when you jump a battery to it, the starter is bad. Why do you think its the ground? How does it look? Any signs of tampering with it? Test it for continuity with battery negative. (Ohms/resistance test) Check all fuses.

okay.. i dont have a volt meter at the time being. I checked all my fuses, all of them are good, I figured it might be the ecu fuse but that is good. My starter is good because I jumped it and it cranks.. Motor still doesnt start though.. due to wat evers is causing the solid cel most likely.. And I just thought the symptoms that Im having pointed towards the thermostat ground.. NO CRANK.. NO START.. no signal to the starter..

Can the clutch switch make the CEL solid?? I wouldnt think so or am I wrong?

 

The clutch switch wont light the CEL. You have more than 1 problem. The circuit that starts the car is separate from the circuit that makes it run. The clutch switch could be a cheap part to try for the no crank since you don't have a voltmeter or test light. For the no start, do you have good spark and fuel pressure?

 

just happened to my car.
check the connections on the battery and check all your grounds from the battery.

 

i have fuel pressure and spark.. and ive checked all my grounds..

 

say if my power wire from my battery is grounded out on the frame.. could it cause this? because i remember a slice in my battery power wire.. and i ran my battery to the back and have the battery wire ran along the floor?/

and yes i know thats not smart.. i wasnt the one who ran it.. my friend did, i just never mentioned to him that the cable had cords showing.. fire waiting to happen. i doubt that would cause it.. if it was touching i probably would have known by now.

on to sumthing else.. im going to look at the clutch switch first thing in the morning.. hope thats that.. what all grounds to the thermostat housing????????????

 

I had the same prob, minus the cel light. run your fingers up the clutch to the top, if you feel a hole the plunger fell out (looks like the tip of a crayola crayon). I used a bolt to fill the hole. That hole should be directly opposite a little button that pushes in when you push the clutch in, thats the switch.

You can also try the main relay that is under the driver side dash left hand side. Big black square with one plug. I forget how many wires for the plug but it has 2 rows say 6-8 wires.

true if he has spark and fuel, then the main relay is good. This only leaves a few reasons left why it won't run. Ignition timing off (either distributor installed 180 degrees out or plug wires are crossed), cam timing off (timing belt has slipped several teeth or broken) remove valve cover to inspect timing belt. Having fuel pressure is good, but are the injectors firing? Spray ether (starting fluid) into the intake & see if it runs that way. If it runs that way, I would begin to suspect bad injectors or bad computer. Last is low compression. How many miles on it?

 

THE MOTOR WAs pulled out of my RUNNING 89 CIVIC DX HATCH ... AND ran perfect! No problems at all.. and the timing is not off nor is the spark plug wires crossed. Im just going to look for a chassis harness at the junkyard maybe tomorrow morning.. sick of this wiring bullshit. Im probably just going to change chasis harness and engine harness and hope it fires up then

 

I hope you swapped the computer from the DX as well...

i have the exact same car, and the EXACT same problem shooting a 6 code from the ecu too i've changed the sparks and wires and i'm having so much trouble starting this car , it does crank but it doesnt start

 

yea man. I have no clue where else to check.. If anyone lives in close to MARYLAND and can come help me figure it out I can pay them cash before they even help me.. Anyone whos interested PM me..I live in gambrills. Anyways I was reading a post a few ago.. It said if you are having a constant CEL even while the diagnostic connector is jumpered.. there is a fault either in the MAP, TA SENSOR (TPS SENSOR), FUEL PUMP CIRCUIT (most likely main relay), the ECU itself, or the wiring associated between all of the above. And IT ALSO said something about inspecting the ACG FUSE in the under dash fuse box! Where is that fuse? do i even have one because that post was for an EG civic DX. Another thing.. my engine harness is for a CRX HF.. it has a plug for the EGR 3 wire plug near the transmission.. just left it unplugged.. I dont have egr crap.. that wont do anything right? I need all the help I can get thank you.
