it's my opinion that if you think your car needs to be powerwashed, you are doing something wrong. it can do more harm than good UNLESS we are talking about a mud bogger, trash truck or something.

powerwashers are awesome though...for concrete, siding, etc.

warm wash water and a quality automotive wash shampoo should be more than enough to clean most anything. for tough areas, use a paint safe all purpose cleaner diluted to the proper strength.

well, if you prefer the powerwasher, you are right- you'd save cash by not going to the car wash and also because you'd have a machine that you could use for alot of different things.

i just think they are too powerful and are overdoing it- they strip protection (wax, sealant) and can cause issues if you get too close. they can wear out clear coat, especially on edges and on newer cars that have really thin clear.

for what it's worth, i have a husky electric unit that has lasted several years. i use it quite often in the warm months for the things i mentioned.

some people frown on electric units, but i've found mine to be plenty powerful for everything i've used it for.

really any power washer with the wrong wand setting and/or too close of a distance between the stream and the paint can cause an issue. i know mine one time was on the tight pattern and it accidently just grazed my hand from about a foot away...it sliced my hand like a razor! **** was nasty. i'd put it up against a .22 pellet rifle any day of the week ; )

and, pretty much any powerwasher will remove final paint protection, like wax and sealant. even the fan spray nozzles at local car washes will do that at a decent distance.

Nothing will ever do a BETTER job of cleaning your paint than HAND washing it using the TWO BUCKET method!
