I've never personally used an aftermarket one. I would probably use an aftermarket one if i was trying to raise/lower compression or had a non-stock bore size, but besides that i just trust oem honda quality. I actually pulled the middle layer out of my oem gasket to bump the compression a bit

You weakened it a decent it amount by removing a layer. OEM/AFTER MARKET they are all steel gaskets and will not brek or crack. Lots of people dont reliaze most cars 1990 + are steel head gaskets and think OEM is better, not true theres no such thing as "honda steel" metal is metal. the metal that honda uses is not any better or stronger then the metal that autozone or kragen will use. it comes down to how much you wanna pay.

just wanna give you a lil reality check on the whole "honda OEM quality" part

I never said any of the aftermarket ones were worse, I just said that's what I trust because I haven't tried any aftermarket ones. I figure since I have never blown a honda headgasket there's no reason to use something different.

I've read about a lot of people removing the middle layer with absolutely no issues, so I figured I'd give it a shot. My gsr swap will be going in by this weekend so we'll see how it goes.

Ok sorry your comment is ignorent. Steel is steel no differnt than any other steel.

Im sure you have head 4 numbers being thrown around when someone talks about lower control arms. 6061 Aluminum. Steel is the say way. OEM parts are what were desighned for your engine. They meet the specific standerds of that car and engine.

I always use OEM head gaskets because I know they were desighned for my engine. You dont know for sure what grade steel what make up of the steel molecular structure the aftermarked head gaskets from autozone or what not are made from.

Cool, do the timing belt and water pump while you're at it. Basically, if I'm putting an engine in a car, especially with high mileage, I'd be changing everything that would be annoying to do when the engine is already in.
