!!!Need tranny help on my hf rex!!!
I've got an 90 hf rex with a jdm zc sohc swap. I'm tryin to find out if a zc dohc tranny will work. I like the fact that it has a 4.40 Fd but a lot of people have told me I should just go with an Si tranny. I'm just tryin to find out mainly if a dohc zc tranny will bolt up to my d series and what axles am I gonna have to have?
The tranny will bolt up to the engine.
The issue may lie with the intermeidate shaft.
Make sure that the back of your engine has the mounting holes for it.
Some engines have them, some don't, some have holes that need to be threaded.

Ok the motor does have the mouting holes for the half shaft (intermediate shaft). What car was the tranny produced in? What axles am I gonna need? The engine warehouse here in atlanta georgia (best japanese engines) won't let me get parts unless I tell them it goin into the factory vehicle that it was manufactured in. Not a hard obstacle to overcome, just have to kno ur ****.
the DOHC ZC transmission does not have a 4.40 final drive - it has a 3.88 - the DOHC ZC transmission uses the larger Integra type axles at the transmission end - stock axles will not work - you must have a JDM ZC (only one that works) intermediate shaft for manual transmission and use the 90-93 Integra axles - on the HF, you would need to swap out the knuckles/hubs for ones from a DX, Si, LX or EX in order to use the Integra axles - you would be better off with the Si transmission
Ok so si tranny is gonna be less hassle. How hard is it to change the gearing or possibly the final drive? I dnt run interstate runs, I'm a red light to red light kinda guy, all about acceleration. I'm already waxin stock b-series asses with my stock zc and lx tranny but I'm still not satified with the gearing. Oh and which tranny has the 4.40 Fd?

I guess the most popular swap is the Si FD with the ZC gears.
You will obviously need the ZC or Si tranny and the gears.
Some keep the Si 5th gear. ZC 5th has you sitting over 4,000 rpm at 70mph.
If you put the Si FD in the ZC tranny then you need the Si countershaft as well.

I'm prob just gonna do a build on an si tranny but I dnt have any idea where to buy aftermarket gears or is there such a thing? One of my buddies built an si tranny with other L3 gears with the 4.25 Fd but I want somethin quick, not really interested in top end. Which tranny has the 4.40 Fd? I bet that sob is straight filthy mcnasty. Lol

SRR made a 4.9 for a hydro Z6/Y8. Not sure if the shaft would work in a cable tranny.
Gear X did a 4.7... also hydro and for over $500.
