Icon2 B16A or B18C

I have a Crx Si and I want to make her scoot so she's not all looks. I was wondering what would be better, A B16A so match the SiR front end conversion she will be getting or just go for the B18C5? Any room for thought?

well you would be spending alot of money on the c5 which is the us spec type-r the gsr is a c1 or b18c (which could also be a type-r) but a gsr would be a better bet for boost or something in the long run, but just for a peppy dd a b16 would be ok.

yeah, your price range is huge. a b16a is around 1000 complete. a c5 is around 4500. i'd choose a happy medium and get a gsr swap.

The motor itsself is just a fraction of the expense.

97 spec JDM B18C-R $2,500.00
GSR YS1 tranny W/Quaife LSD $800.00

Clutch, flywheel, axles, mounts, shift linkage, Rywire harness etc... $2,000.00

It gets deep quick so make sure you get what you really want the first time.

Another vote for the gsr. Friend of mine had one with a ls swap and I wasn't too overly impressed. b16 would likely leave you wanting more. It is cheaper to do it once.

It's always gonna be a matter for what you want out of your car. To help you narrow it down a bit though ill make a quote

"There are B16 heads, ITR heads, and GSR heads. IMO, it is never worth buying an ITR head, if you plan on upgrading the springs/retainers/cams anyway. They are amazing heads from the factory, but B16/GSR heads can be had and built for far less. ...so do you see why it's just not worth the $1000-1200 price tag on a used ITR head? The question you SHOULD ask is, should I get a GSR or B16 head?"

although this is in refrence to what head you should get for your LS-vtec it gives you a blunt idea of your choices or so i think

future plans will also greatly effect your choice.. If you want to go turbo, A LS has a pretty good factory compression ratio.. GSR also have quench pads to help reduce the likelyness of detonation.. Out of your choices i would say go for the GSR its not as expensive at the ITR and its got a little more kick then a B16.. LS vtec is also a great choice but like the guy before me said make sure you put the right parts into a LS-vtec can be as reliable as you make it.. if you decide to go that route check this thread out..

Well I like B16A but I wouldn't do the hole front end conversion. Because it's never goin to be an REAL SiR.

I like doing to front end conversion, I prefer the look over the USDM. Anyway, I'm not looking to turbo. I'm looking for all engine.

if you're planning on all motor, then check through the N/A hp thread to see what power some have made with their set-up...

There are alot of variables to consider. For instance anyone running an LS tranny in an all motor set-up probably has trouble passing a schoolbus.

These days, there are so many deals out there. go with a B18C. The lsat 3 i've bought myself were all under $1000. It has a good deal more jam than a B16A.

Another option is the B20Z. I have one in my ek hatch, i an take even a lot of gsr swapped cars with it.

A B20Z out performs even the B16B....engine for engine and costs a hell of a lot less. And yes, i have personal experience in this as i've had two B16B's now.
