Icon6 97 prelude problems

hey i have a 97 prelude that i just got. i was running it hard on the way back from college one day and it developed a tap. i thought it sounded like lifters but i guess theres some kind of slow motion things inside the head. honda says they dont go bad but honda probably doesnt run the **** out of them either. anyways if you no anything about this and think you might be able to help out just give me some advice. thanks

a slow tick? A honda doesnt have lifters but i get what you are saying. Check the valve lash and make sure they are all within spec, and then push down on the middle lobe (vtec) and make sure all the LMA's (lost motion assemblies) depress and rebound smooth without any sticking..etc.

yea it speeds up when you give it throttle. if you let it run for a while the noise will go away. do you think its the low motion assemblies? i dont think they stick, some are easier to depress than others

to check for bad lma's rev the car to 3k and listen for the tap, give the vtec solenoid power to engage vtec and see if tap tap stops.
