Cheers to Nicky Hayden for winning today's race and the '02 AMA Superbike championship on his Honda RC51!

Better luck next time for 2nd-place-in-the-championship Kawasaki rider Eric Bostrom (who crashed out in T4 and broke the bike but was ok).

I'll be down there tomorrow watching race #2 of the weekend's double-header. It will be interesting to see everyone duking it out for the remaining championship points. It will also be amazing to see those bikes doing 1:26-27 lap times (on the 2.25 mile North Course, remember).

PS- Catch Sunday's race live at 3pm and rebroadcast at 9pm. And catch both races rebroadcast on Tuesday night from 9-11pm (eastern).

Jon
PS- Ducatis were 2nd and 5th IIRC

JJ and I worked AMA today and Hayden's pole time was 1:24.7, a new track record. The fastest trap time on the front stretch was one of the Ducati's at 171 MPH.

Whats up Mark, I bet that was fun to watch, 171 is pretty slow though...

Yeah, it was fun to watch. We actually made it on TV briefly today during the 3rd red flag. The races that were recorded yesterday and today and not played live will be on the next 2 Tuesdays.

They had to be played live, because I watched the one race at 12 noon... The 600cc bikes..

I watched some of the races last night on Speed. Did anybody see the guy who went off in the barriers when he tried to avoid another rider/bike that had tipped over in front of him? After he got up, he walked toward the track and started yelling at the guy who tipped over. Then he laid down in the middle of the track ... just before 2-3 bikes came through!

That was the single most insane thing I've ever seen on a track. He wanted to make sure a red flag would come out, so he ran from where his bike was, and he laid down right in the middle of turn 5 so they had to stop the race! Then the other bike involved caught fire.... it was nuts.

i thought for sure the race would end in a red flag situation with all of the wrecks happening

to to eric bostrom for his last second draft and pass for the win

to Yates for avoiding a collision and minimized damage to his ride
