Default I'm an EF noob!

Hi there EF'ers I know this is probably all in the FAQ thread and on google and whatever other site, but last night I was searching and I'm having a hard time finding the definite answers that I'm looking for. It would really help me out if you guys could give me some straight answers. Here it is... I bought a 1990 CRX dx, it's a 5spd and I was told it was the Si tranny but I'm not sure if that's true, anyway I also bought a JDM d15b to swap into the CRX because the stock motor that's in it now is cutting out if I press the gas too hard and I've tried a few things and can't figure it out so I bought this motor for $150. I'm going to use the tranny that I already have. I don't have an intake manifold so I was wondering if it's possible for me to use the stock DPFI IM that I have temporarily or will I need to convert to MPFI, also I'm planning on using a p28. Is that possible and besides the in-dash conversion harness what else will I need? Basically in a nut shell I need a list of things that I will need to make this motor work in my rex. I really appreciate the help, I've never messed with an OBD0 car before. Also I know I can eventually find this somewhere but I'm really really imaptient and I don't see the problem with asking people that already know so with that said I would like it if I didn't have to go through the whole "why don't you search this and that" BS Thanks again guys. BTW sorry for the long paragraph and what not.

why can't you use a dpfi im on a d15? is it a non-vtec or vtec d15b and for the tranny i think the si tranny at around 80 its at like 4k but on a dx one you can run like around 90 at 4k

It's a vtec d15b, and I haven't been to 80 in the crx yet lol, but at 60 it's around 3k maybe a little higher. To be honest I really don't trust myself to re-wire anything. I can wire v-tec but that's about it haha. I've swapped plenty of motors inluding a b16a into a DA that I had (got stolen a month ago ) but when it comes o wiring I'm not too confident. Do you guys know how much it would be for a shop to wire it or would it be worth it to get the rywire harness? Also if I get the rywire harness will there be anything else that I would have to do on my own, thanks again for the help.

Well as far as I know the DPFI manifold will go to the d15b. The problem in your system probably lies in something in the intake manifold and not the rotating assembly of you motor. In order to run a OBD1 ECU, p28 for instance, you need to change your engine harness to a multi-point, and wire in the other things for VTEC for that particular engine, if it is a VTEC motor. Good luck, and go to the top of the page on the main EF forum and look up the FAQ.

You're scrapping your engine because it "cuts out if you step on the gas too hard"? If you replace an engine everytime something goes wrong (that could be as simple as a clogged fuel filter) I hope you have alot of cash. What if replacing the engine doesn't fix the problem? If you want to do a swap anyway, at least diagnose the problem first or you could have real problems trying to get an entirely new engine to work properly.

No, I'm not getting rid of the motor because it has that problem. In fact I'm fixing it first so I can sell it. I'm 90% sure the problem is the distributor, I also have many second opinions on that. I've changed the injectors, fuel filter, cap/rotor, spark plugs and wires etc. I want to put the d15b in because it was cheap, it has v-tec, it will bump the performance a little, and I have a good friend that is a genius at building single cam motors. I appreciate the input.

I was wondering, if I use the d15b's engine harness and intake manifold, and if I use the OBD0-OBD1 conversion harness and a P28, wouldn't that work and essentially be my DPFI-MPFI conversion?

V-tec=WRONG
VTECH=WRONG
V-TECH=WRONG

you have to wire in 2 injectors to the ecu and have to be multipoint for the p28 to work jus do the conversion its not hard

ok go with the p28 chipped ecu and obd-0--obd1 conversion harness u need a 92-95 EX wiring harness cause you need the appropriate sensors(tps,MAP..ect) from same year for that ecu to work the dpfi is not a good idea you wont have enough fuel for that motor and the p28 is mpfi if you do that maybe spring 180 for a blox manifold youll have a solid ride.....
