I sawpped a tranny on my friends 91 Teg and the lower ball joint on the driver side wont come lose. I cant get the top one or the bottom one out. I tried the forks and hitting the controll arm with a sludge hammer and i cant get it lose to put the axel back in. Any suggestions on how to get it lose? (FYI I pulled the tranny with the axel in it.)

 

mine as well just buy a ball joint removal.. will save u time

 

4 solid hella hard wacks to the back side of the lower control arm and mine popped right out. haha

 

Use a 5lb hammer and give it a few whacks.. will most likely work.

If you have a 1/2 craftsman ratchet.. that will work too.

I used to use forks and weighted hammers. I always ended up tearing the boot or damaging the threads. So if you're not changing the ball joint it's really not that good. I'd suggest using a two jaw press/puller. You could use it on tie rods too. That way you don't end up with torn boots, damaged threads, and a whole lot of noise. Just my 2 cents though...
