Default Scott Kelley at Phoenix

Well got our last qualifying in at about 3 pm in the heat of the day. The car slowed a bit to a 9.74 so I dialed in a 9.72 for first round at 5 pm. I drew a big block challenger 440 w/ six pack first round and had to spot him 6 tenths (10.33) I hit the tree hard and went .004 to his .055 and ran him down at about 1200 feet, I lifted but ran a 9.695 and busted out by .025! As Jim Gillum says NERTS! Well the good thing is I am adapting to the sportsman tree and it is really fun racing muscle cars and having to spot them ... It REALLY makes them mad!

Scott

P.S. Hang in there All Motor brothers, I am working diligently to get a better index for us! It may take till June but I am squeeking like a wheel with a bad bearing. Sooner or later they will have to shut me up!

I am working for the index to be somewhere around a 10.85. In the same category SS/BX is 11 lbs per inch and their index is 10.85. We have to be 11.5 per inch (80 lbs heavier) and our index is 10.20??? In theory we should have a slower index than the 10.85 but we run methanol so I would be happy with a 10.75 - 10.85 range.

yeah when i heard a 10.20, i thought it was a bit harsh putting you guys at 11.5 lbs/inch. i was just wondering what you are aiming for.

are you making the trip to the other side this weekend?

Unfortunately no national tour this year as our budget does not allow it. We will be running NHRA Division 7 and the National events that are in our area. We may run the local BOTI events IF they adjust the rules a bit.

sorry to twist your words here on such a positive post, yet I think it applies to what you are saying with BOTI?

Hmmm, I don't want to be liked with any negative rumors in regards to BOTI. I think BOTI does a fabulous job for the Sport Compact market and their events are great. What I mean by that is this. The rules need to be adjusted a bit so that there is more pairity within the class. AND they need to make it a closer jump for the guys running the Street All Motor class to make the jump if they so choose. That is all I meant by that.

I agree with this Scott.. But I think it will be a couple years before any changes like that will happen. Right now it is a pretty big gap from Street A/M and Pro A/M.

Lets play devils advocate for a second . . How do you propose they do that ?

Not to take the thread a different route, you can PM me if you'd like. I am just curious as to your thinking on this.

Great to see you getting exposure for us on a national level ! ! !

I wont link you to any negative comment, just ask you then ... how much do you weigh win racing BOTI events? Also, I understand its a tough business and I applaud all efforts made, yet slowing one class to merge another with it wont bring fans - the words FREE TICKETS will though

Seeing you at Pomona last year was truly remarkable, and seeing you continue this year is just greater opportunity to make the mark with NHRA, that Sport Compact is here to stay and can be extremely competitive.

Kudos to you, your team and your family - I wish you all the luck!!

your definately crossing a barrier Scott. I wish more would jump in on this.

Although, I do think it will take more than one car to persuade NHRA to change the index just from past experiences and their attitude towards "us"

We weighed 1775 for the BOTI Series which was 50 lbs heavy for class. We ran in the 9.5 - 9.7 range all season long. Now, with that said take a look at all the cars in the class that are capable of running those numbers. That takes you to 6 in the whole nation. Having 2-5 of those cars show up and run does not make a show and the reason why the class is a dead player. The Sport All Motor class is thriving with over 16 + cars trying to qualify for these events. Couple that with all the good side by side racing and you actually have a show. What needs to happen is the weight of the current All Motor cars needs to be raised to within 150 lbs of their sportsmen brethren so that a guy or girl could make the appropriate modifications (Engine program, wheelie bars, slicks, etc) over time and make the jump to the "pro" class. Asking an 18-25 demographic person to come up with 100k to build a car that is comparable to what I have is unfair and ludicrous. Many of these young adults have not even bought a house yet so how can you expect them drop that kind of cash.

Now, I have been working with NHRA on this index and I am using the Sportsman All Motor platform as the basis. There are hundreds of these cars around the nation and these are the guys that are going to be using this class on the divisional and national level. I keep stressing to them that my car is the exception to the rule not the common standard.

Hopefully that makes sense,

SK
