Default Engine Code Check

Ok I think I got an o2 sensor out but I wanna make sure, the trick with the paper clip and your check engine light I heard of, anyone tried it? No adverse effects? Also, when I check it how would I know exactly which o2 sensor it is based on the codes? Which are primary and which are secondary? Anyone done this before?

All help is appreciated, gotta get it fixed so I can pass emissions... Thanx!

btw: OBD-II

i always have a small wire in my car just so i can check codes as soon as they show up. it works good just count the blinks and tell us what you get.
long blink = 10
short blink=1
