89 crx si Clutch Safety Switch
So Im getting ready to take my crx in to get smogged and jump in and turn the key. NOTHING. No clicking from the starter, almost like a dead battery. Checked battery and it volted at 12 volts. Then I tried to jump it with cables, still nothing. I start reading up and see some people talking about a "clutch safety switch". And how a rubber thing often falls out and then your car won't turn over.
I found this blue piece of plastic by the clutch, it looks like the tip of a crayon. But I traced the clutch arm back and see no place for a clutch switch. Does the 89 crx have one (I know the 88 does not). Where the heck is it located?
I can't use the search function here, I'm not sure if its still out
. Helppppp!

That was the most hokey piece of crap I've ever seen. I traced the clutch pedal again and felt a little switch back there. And there is a hole in the clutch arm. What happens is you press the clutch in and the arm usually has a rubber piece in there (the blueish thing that is shaped like a crayon). That pushes the switch when you start the car and push the clutch in.
I just put a bolt/nut thru that hole, I know that thing is going to vibrate off later though, it starts fine now! Anyone know another way to fill that hole more permanent??
Thanks guys.

yeah replace it with a brake stop switch button. they use the same part nubmer for the brake pedal button as well as the clutch.
Or you can take your assembly out weld the hole closed, then adjust the switch to work correctly.

You can also just bypass the safety switch, you won't have to depress the clutch to start. Same thing happened to me, I just bypassed it since I was getting a python 2 way w/ remote start.
