Default '03 tranny problem...any ideas?

Hey folks, here's my issue...I have a 2003 Civic EX Coupe w/ an automatic transmission. Lately I have been noticing the tranny "hesitating" when it shifts gears. While accelerating, before locking into the next gear, it will rev up a bit and then grab the next gear and keep going. It does this with all of the gears it seems. I just changed the fluid out last week thinking that i'd give that a shot, but it's still doing it. Any Ideas?

That's called a "flare up."

The transmission is probably bad.

Is the Check Engine light on?

nope, no light. should it be on? it revs up about only 200 rpms (not like 1000 or 2000) before dropping into the next gear

Default Where to buy transmission?

Hey folks, where is the best place to buy an automatic transmission for a 2003 Civic EX? With the way this thing is starting to flare, and the amount of mileage I put on it every week (at least 500 miles), I want to be prepared for when it starts to crap out. Thanks.

Check in your local phone book for import salvage yards. Call several of them before you commit to buying. Make sure to mention that you need one specific to the EX model; you may have to provide your VIN for them.

Also make sure to ask about an exchange warranty if the used trans you get turns out to be bad.

I wouldn't buy anything though until the car stops moving. Transmissions can sometimes go entire years or more with shifting issues before they completely crap out.

ok cool, i'll keep that in mind. i put on a TON of miles driving back and forth from Miami to Orlando every week, and i just want to be prepared for when it actually does die...instead of sitting on the side of the road scratching my heading about what to do next.
