Default Need some input. 90 Civic Ex convert to 5spd HF?

i have a 90 Civic Ex Automatic (4dr sedan obviously)

tranny is going out and I have a spare 88 Hf Tranny sitting around (with matching clutch/flwheel).

I am wondering if it will be worth the hassle to throw a HF Tranny in it. I knwo it'll be slower, but thats not my biggest concern. I am worried that it will lack necessary acceleration when I need it.

This is a winter beater so I could careless. Its getting 20-23mpg right now (bad headgasket, plus timing belt being off PLUS oil in one of the spark plug boots) yeah all of that is getting fixed in 2 weeks. its a beater!!

let me know some thoughts. I pretty much know what is involved in the swap.

you'll need a 5 speed ecu or to convert yours to 5 speed and you'll need i'm pretty sure 5 speed mounts and linkage and have to cut out the 5 speed hump out of a 5spd car and then put it where your existing auto one is

A friend of mine did a 5 speed swap into his DX hatch and he didn't have to swap the hump out, it hooked right up to where the auto stick is. But being the sedan, you might have to swap it out, but it's worth a try.

As stated. I ALREADY know what is involved in the swap. You guys also forgot to mention the obvious..... pedals, clutch cable, etc.

I have a 5spd pm6 laying around that I can use.

An optional swap out would be the gauge cluster.

I know what to do for the swap. As far as wiring goes I can do ALL of that on my own. I make my own obdo-obd1 conversion harnesses. I'm not concerned with anything BESIDES the acceleration.

I am just wondering if it will be worth it to install a HF tranny into this heavy *** car. If it will gain better gas mileage and still accelerate with no problems then I am all for it.

Thanks for the inputs. but helpful ones would be appreciated.

The car will move. Whether or not it will be "worth it" is your call.

If you're that concerned about acceleration, find a DX transmission instead. Trade yours to someone looking to improve mileage or something.
