major stuttering problem
Not too long ago my car started sputtering real bad between 3500 and 4500 rpm. It's never done this before, and it's only gotten worse. At first it was every few seconds, then it got quicker. I could give it more gas to get the rpm up, but now I can't even do that. It gets real bad right after VTEC engagement, and it's even started doing it at lower rpms now. So far, I've changed he fuel filter, fuel pump, and spark plugs (they looked like they were burning lean and one of them had scorch marks on the upper where the spark plug wire plugs in). I even put fuel injector cleaner in it. Nothing's worked. I was thinking maybe some new plug wires and distributor cap and rotor. Any other ideas? It's a 00 Civic Si by the way.

Take off your dizzy cap and inspect, look for any small cracks or holes. Check to make sure you are getting spark through your wires on both ends. Check those new plugs since you said they are new, see if any look diff than the others...
Check the rotor inside of the cap
yeah, that's the next thing i'm checking is the cap and rotor. i'll see what the new plugs look like when i get a chance. anyhting else you guys can possbily think of?
My car was doing the same thing for about 4 to 6 weeks, I changed the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, fuel pump and after all that it still was doing it, then this week my CEL came on (thank god) it was giving the code 45: fuel is to rich or to lean, so Im changing my O2 sensor tomorrow and I hope it fixes the problem.
That sounds probable. I put a test pipe on it a while back, and just recently put a header on too (as well as a full cat back). Before installing the header, it was all fine, but after that it smelled pretty potently of exhaust. An old muscle car is the best way to describe the smell. But so far no check engine light (which would make things so much easier...). I've got two spark plug nonfoulers drilled out so it would place the o2 sensor further away from the exhaust stream and avoid throwing a code.
mine is doing the same thing... obd1 b18c1... it stutters between 1500 k and 2500 k but its throwing code 9(cylinder position sensor! ) if i shut the car off and turn it back on itll stop doing it for a while! its driving me nuts!
