Diagnostic tool not working on JDM ECU
Hi I'm swapping a JDM H22A and trani into my DC2 integra.
My main question is can a Snap-On diagnostic tool or any other diag tool work on a JDM ECU?
My mechanic has the car right now and says he can't communicate with the JDM ECU, he mentioned something about not having the VIN number? So what's the problem here?
I also have a USDM 99 prelude ECU and he tried that one and the car cranks but never turns over (I'm assuming something is wired wrong)
Any help or info would be great guys I'm trying to get this thing back on the road ASAP.
THANKS

1. Your mechanic is an idiot using a Snap-On MT2500 Scanner. This scanner requires that you enter a few different parts of the VIN number so that it chooses the correct engine information. Any dumbass can figure out how to scroll through and select 97 Honda Prelude 2.2L VTEC DOHC, but your mechanic needs the VIN because scrolling is beyond his capabilities.
2. JDM Honda ECUs don't connect to American diagnostic equipment, so even if your mechanic wasn't a retard, he still wouldn't be able to connect.
Edit: If your car is OBDI, then tell him to enter 95 Honda Accord EX MT w/AC 2.2L VTEC.
Here's a random number pulled from google: 1HGCD7167SA039857
Give him that VIN number and tell him to use it.

Your car will never start with the 99 ecu. There is a built in immobilizer in the ecu that you can't get around. If the ecu is OBD-II and is trully a JDM ecu then you can jump the terminals in the OBD scan port to get the generic code.
Oh contraire mon frère, immobilizer is in the ECU. If you desolder the 26 pins for the immobilizer, the car will start.
Ya he is a dumb ***, long story..
Thanks for your help guys I figured he was just ****ing up with the scanner, ya I've heard about the immobilizer I'll check into that. I'll relay the remarks to my mechanic ;0
