the spider gears in my 97 Accord EX????? Help!!??
The problem started two days ago. My fiance came home and said everytime she turned right there was a loud thumping noise.
So I went and drove the car and sure enough it was there.
The next day I brought the car into the shop to have it looked at and fixed. The mechanics fist assumption was that it was the bearing on the left side. After changing that the noise still remained, so he changed both axels.
Needless to say, the noise is still there.
The car has 45,000 miles on it and their now telling me I need my transmision rebuilt, or a new one put in, because my spider gears are bad.
I know it's a bit confusing, but I've already payed for the pointless work they've done. Now I'm going for a second opinion, but I'd like to hear what people here have to say, and if anyone else has had this problem.
Please post under here, I'll check back soon.
Thanks,
Andrew
PS Today the noise started when I'm going straight too. But only when I'm not accelorating. I've baffled 6 automotive shops so far. Please help

Try the diff. Lift the car off the ground and make sure the front wheels are up. Turn one of the wheels and have some one on the other side. If it turns freely, in the opposite direciton, it is not the diff. If it does not want to turn, then it is the diff.
