Default I've got $700! What to do?

I basically have no system period. As of now I'm running:

Panasonic CQ801U
6.5" Sony Coaxials (front)
6.5" Pioneer Coaxials (rear)

I have about $700 to upgrade. Here are the products I'm looking at. I'm just not sure what order to do everything in. The costs are in parentheses.

1. Upgrade Panasonic to Alpine 7894 ($105)
2. Get 150 sq ft. of Raammat installed ($200)
3. Get either Focal 165V or JL VR650-CS Components up front ($200)
4. 2 12" JL w3 D4 ($300)
5. JL Audio 500/1 Amp - subs ($400)
6. JL Audio 200/1 Amp - components ($280)
7. Install w/ Wiring Kit - don't trust myself ($150)

Now that that's covered. What options to get? Keep in mind I only have $700 to spend right now. I want SQ over SPL. Thanks! Right now I'm thinking: 1,2,3,7 (install won't be as much w/o the subs and amp).

PS - Rear-fill speakers will be run off of H/U if I can afford both the components and amp.

Can I ask why you would replace what you already got?

150sq ft? Awww man, do you even realise how much material that is?

Do you even need to ask that? I have no sound quality, no bass, and no MP3 player? I believe 150 sq ft is adequate enough to do doors, floor, and trunk. My car rattles like a **** as it is w/o bass.

95 Civic... what do you mean by mult-channel? I know what they are, I just don't know what you are suggesting.

Yes I did have to ask - since you didnt say in your original post WHY you wanted to replace those things. How the hell was anyone supposed to know you wanted an MP3 player when you didnt say?

Gee apology accepted.

And your 1,2,3,7 still leaves you with no bass - so even if you spend your $700 on that you still wont be totally satisfied.

1,2,3,7 would just get me started out for now. What I could actually do is:

Alpine H/U, 1 12" JL w3, JL 250/1, Comps (run off of amp)

OR

Keep Panasonic H/U, 1 12" JL w3, JL 250/1, RAAMmat

What kind of music do you listen to? Do you have your S-HDB button on your Panasonic deck cranked up? If so. get a subwoofer and amp first.

By JL200/1, you mean 250/1, right? That's a class D mono amp. You can't use them on your components because it's only one channel and Ds are too dirty over 500Hz or so.

I suggest a compromise.

Keep your current deck, get a set of XR650CSIs instead, a 12W3V2D4 and a JL300/4 powering your front stage bridge the rear to power your subwoofer. Later on you can get another amp (250/1)to power your subwoofer and either use the 300/4 to power your front and rears OR if you don't believe in rear speakers, you can run everything actively or just run the rear speakers off the deck, it you really want rear fill.

If this goes over your budget, put the better pair out of your existing coaxials up front and run the JL300/4 on them. I had an Xtant 302A running a pair of cheap *** Alpine coaxials (sps1629s) and a temporary setup and they sounded so much better with on the amp than on deck power.

PS. JL is good stuff. My boy built a Civic Si that grabbed a 3rd place this past spring at the Daytona Nationals in the Ama 601+. All JL Audio.

I mainly listen to rap, alternative , and some hard rock. I can't have my S-HDB on because my car rattles so much. It sounds terrible. I usually leave it on the "Tight" setting and turn the volume down. Let's see how much your 1st option is:

JL XR650 ($259)
JL 300/4 ($359)
JL 12" W3 V2 - not sure the price on this new model (old model $149)

Total: $767 (not counting wiring and install)

With that set-up how many watts would be going to the components and how many would be going to the sub? Thanks!

75w RMS to the front stage and 150w RMS to the subwoofer.

The V2s msrp at $20 more.
A shop that does good work will probably charge you $125-$175 is to mount the component speakers, with the crossovers in the door, including making nice 3/4" MDF spacers using the OEM housing as a template, and maybe $75 to $125 to mount the amp on the back seat. Run a 4 gauge through the firewall and do not skimp on the RCA cables.

Where can I get the v2s online? I messed up on the quote on the RAAMmat. It's actually only $200 and it's the RAAMmatt60 model. So for now I have decided to do:

Alpine 7894
RAAMmat
JL w3 12" v2
JL 250/1

Then when I get more money I will probably get components and a JL 300/4. Should 1 sub sound okay for now? Thanks!

sounds good to me.
with the new deck you can high pass your current speakers... and the alpine is probably the strongest hu amp out there. also raammat'ing doors will definately help your midbass response and you can also use the bass center freq. on the deck to bump up the midbass a bit if you feel the need

i dunno if you have a hatchback or what (if you do then a 12w3 with a 250/1 should be more than enough) and if you want a more output you can always port it

but yeah that sounds like a strong setup and when you do go to a nice comp set and amp it will just be that much better

if your going for sound quality .... you should get better door speakers and amp those ... and later on add a single 10, or 12.... those sony speakers you have are crap... for sound qt your going to need good mids and highs... Mb quart are really good

Yes MB Quart speakers are good, but the tweeters make my ears bleed.
