So, my wife was driving home from work and stopped at a red light. When the light turned green she started accelerating and the car started being REALLY loud! The car did not seem to accelerate as good as it usually does and it was making some weird noises. She drove it home and left it there. After I walked home from work I turned it on and it is really loud. There is some strange things happening on the back of the engine (looking at it from the front). It sounds like the engine is doing some "snap, crackle, pop" stuff. (Kinda sounds like a Subaru now.)

Any suggestions? This is the worst timing for the car to die.

Edit: Could this be caused by a broken (or almost broken) timing belt? What would be the symptoms of that?

 

does the car idle smoothly? can you describe the noise a little better.

 

Nevermind, I found the problem. The exhaust manifold broke in half. How much does a new exhaust manifold cost?

 

if your gonna diy then i would go to the local scrap or you pull it. also look around on here. what year and motor?

 

99 LS, but I'm probably just gonna get it locally since I need it fixed really quick.

Oh, it did not crack. It snapped in half! Just like that!
