Default Sluggish low end power...

I have a 1990 Honda civic dx hatch, and have a problem. When you go into gear, it takes forever for it to accelerate but when it does it just rockets, then I shift into second gear, and it does the same thing. Needless to say it does this through all the gears. It just doesnt seem like there is any low end power, but too much on top end (not that thats a bad thing lol). Its also using more gas now.

My old motor would do the same thing. never found out what made it do it. but at 3,500-4,000rpm it would take off...

it has two fuel injectors secondary and primary, maybe one is going bad, and plus the dx is gutless on the bottom anyways

If it were the fuel injectors, wouldn't it also be idling harsh?

Have you checked your ignition timing recently? Sounds like it's perhaps really advanced.

No the injectors can malfunction without erractic idling. I've had that issue before. Test he resistance on your injectors. In fact while you're doing that take a screw driver and touch the injector and place your ear on the other end and listen or a consistent ticking while the car is idling. Old and easy way to check them. :-)

I did that whole test on my clutch I have read about, where i shifted normally until 3rd, then from 3rd to 5th, and stomped on the pedal. It didn't suddenly accelerate, it kept with the speedo. But I have noticed that when I idle, it goes up and down every few seconds, but not extremely. And I have put some fuel system cleaner with a new tank of gas and am going to see if that helps. Anything else you guys might have would be appreciated, as this is my dd.

Cleaning my IACV made this go away.

you don't have to change you iacv first make sure your coolant is bled that will cause it also there is a bleeder on the front left side of the head crack it open and poor coolant in to your radiator till its a solid stream coming out of the bleeder

Yeah i checked the ecu and it just keeps blinking one over and over...and I will try the coolant bleeding tomorrow morning and let you know how it goes...but what will the coolant not being bled do that could cause my motor to somewhat accelerate. I just started noticing that it feels like the transmission will sorta "jump" on and off the engine. It will accelerate and bog and accelerate and then jackrabbit. And beyond that it seems that the further down my foot goes on the accelerator the less it accelerates, its like the most acceleration is right in the middle of the pedals travel.

I said to clean it, not change it.

So far it is running alot better since i adjusted the timing. It was really off from the marks. No more hard idling, and the takeoffs are much better. Thanks to all of you so far!
