I dont know squat about these inline 4's. Im more of a Mopar guy myself, I want to enter the Grassroots, 2009$ challenge later this year. Dont car about winning just want to not get embarassed. Also engines are hard to come buy here, so i want to see what you all think can be done to the d15

Depends which D15 you are talking about, D15B1 are rated at 70something HP, D15B2 are rated at 91HP.

Multiport Swap (MPFI) Gives you a good 5-10hp extra.
D16A6 (88-91 Civic SI) Camshaft another 5-10hp

throw a baby budget turbo kit on it.. junkyard parts.. could do it all for like 500 bux and it would scoot pretty good... nothing i would do to a engine that matters but go to homemadeturbo.com

Try to see if you can find a Z6 or y8 head, minime swap...but if not, at least make get z6 or zc intake manifold, with the injectors and make if MPFI , and find the z6 camshaft with cam gear....or a "DIY homemade turbo"

what cars have the z6 or y8 heads, Theres a pretty good junk yard near me, I doubt i will be able to find any good cams, but heads should be easier to come by, Ive seen a few older civics, and a few integra,s various years, that havent been torn apart too bad yet. Not looking to boost it, unless it is very low psi, maybe 6 tops. Ive read the stock pistons dont hold up well under alot of pressure.

ive seen high boost on stock internals it is all about the tune. but if you throw a z6 or y8 head on it you could have a little more fun with the d series

Your best bet (like previoulsy said) convert to mpfi with a zc or z6 intake mani, an a6 or zc cam, then i/h/e ftw and an si tranny is also nice 92-95 Honda Civic Si/Ex come with d16z6 and i believe d16y8 comes in 96-00 Honda civic EX

mpfi seems like a lot of work for 5-10 hp.
my engine is a d15b1, went to the junk yard, and saw a d15b2 with its cam in, Im wondering what else i need to scavenge from the b2 to make by b1 into a b2

Go to that junk yard look for an LS motor and drop it in! It will have more of what you want if you don't plan on boosting. It probably isn't very realistic to gain 100 horse on a d motor without significant motor work being done.

The MPFI swap seems like alot of work but once you get into it, its not that bad. But you are goona need to do it just for the fact that thats the only way your gonna be able to compete. EX. if you are gonna run a z6,y8 head.
MPFI swap
d16a6/zc cam
d16a1/ZC pistons
SI tranny
guutted car

Built right with a good suspension that little setup is nice.

Are you in a hatch, crx, sedan? all great choices and welcome to the honda crowd.

Im not looking to gain 100 hp
want maybe 100-110 hp total, its still my daily driver, for now.
Id like see what i can do for the under a $1000 comp. Baught it for 300 so that leaves 700 for suspension, role cage, and motor work. Its a tight budget, but itl be fun to compete.
I figure role cage is going to be my biggest expense, unless i can find a welder to use
Right now 70hp just isnt going to cut it. So Im on the lookout for...
Z6 head with intake manifold for the mpfi swap 92-95 civic si/ex
A ZC or d16a6 cam....... what cars have Zc and d16a6 so i can be on the lookout
Si tranny.

Thanks for the info

dont waste your money on a roll cage you dont need it they just take up space and your not gonna need one for a 100 hp d

here's the thing everyone keeps on forgetting/or doesn't know, you have a $2009 budget. you got the car for $300 so that's a good start. look in the rules to see if you can get any "free" performance parts added on to your car. i'm not to in formed on the current rules, but there is always a loop hole to get cheap parts in there. a lot of people have started to cheat a little bit in the grassroots series, which sucks.

but back to the point. if you get the z6 head, that is a vtec head so you won't be able to use the a6 cam. the only way you can use the zc cam is if it was a vtec zc(think).

my advice, cheat like everyone else well do. go to that junkyard of yours get what ever part you want, and just get the junkyard dude to give you a receipt showing that you got them cheaper. that's what a lot of people have been doing in the grassroots series. which is a bunch of bull(the cheating) but it is happening. this is not to say that there aren't people out there following the rules, just saying that there are more cheaters out there now.

this would be the only other option besides cheating to stay competitive. i remember back in 2001 there was a crx si that used an old mr2 turbo, and side mount intercooler. they did pretty well, don't remember though, but they placed top 20. i do remember that they ran a low 14 in the quarter. which was amazing for all the junkyard parts that did had.

oh, that side mount intercooler, they had it mounted to were the stock intake box was at and put a scoop in the hood on top of the intercooler.

You will never be able to compete with a D15, you will need at least a D16z6 with a turbo. As far as i know there is no "road coarse", just an AutoX. For this you will need suspension and an excellent driver, I don't think you need a cage. The most you can hope for with a D15 is a fun street car.

Ive seen some potential in these little buggers. Like i said earlier, not looking to win and also i want to keep it under a thousand dollars. It is NHRA bracket style safety equip.
Ive done some minor racing, before, this shouldnt pose too much of a problem. at the very least it should be fun
