Default How to tell what year my motor is

Ok, I drive a 96 accord EX. Bought it second hand. When I bought it off the guy he said that the previous owner had put a new engine in it. I just assumed that he meant an engine from another 96 Accord... and... well... assuming sure made an *** of me.

I was having a problem with the car hitching when it was under load. The check engine light pointed to an EGR valve issue. So I put an order in for an EGR valve for a 1996 Honda Accord EX. When I went to install the part I found that it just wouldn't fit. So I just don't know what year my engine is now. It would help to find out for future parts situations. The code on the engine is f22b2... but I doubt that'll tell you anything other than the fact that it's a 2.2 L, 4 Cylinder 16 valve motor.

What suggestions do you have to help me pin down what year this motor is?

Thanks for your help!

F22B2 - 94-97 Accord LX/DX/SE motor

Assuming your OBDII port still works, you most likely have a 96/97 motor

Well considering you have a EX, it originally had a F22b1 vtec motor in it...now you have a f22b2 non-vtec motor. So if you pulled a egr from a 96 EX , this might be your problem.... It does kinda suck for u because your car should have the f22b1

US or Canadian 96 EX?

The Canadian EX = F22B2, EX-R = F22B1

No matter if it's US or CDN, what your looking for is any 94-97' F22B2 Non VTEC EGR valve, Honda Part # 18011-P0B-A00.

Look at your engine code. Underneath the engine code, there's a series of numbers. The first number indicates the year of the block, but in a not so easy way.

I'll take my engine for example, it is a B18C1, the numbers under the engine code read 2xxxxx, the two indicates that my engine was the second year of the B18C1, so since the C1 was released in 1994, my engine is a 1995. Im not really current on Accord engines since I've never owned an Accord, but I think the F22B2 engine debuted in 1994, so...

1=94
2=95
3=96
4=97

There's also a date stamped into the head near the exhaust manifold. Here's a pic of my head:

See the year stamped is 94? I don't know how to tell the month stamp, I think the month is 12 on mine which would make it a 95 (anything after june is the next model year).

Also, if your block is OBDII, you can look at the rear of the block behind the driver's side axle, there is a VIN plate. The 10th digit of the vin specifies the year.
T=96
V=97
W=98

OBDII blocks have VINs on the engine/transmission, OBDI blocks have no VIN.
