new belts might sqeek a touch.

A half inch play sounds about right.

If you think your doing something wrong take a picture of the tension bolt so we can see what your doing.

SO the other three bolts are loose and you have screwed the tension bolt in soo far that you can't screw it in any furthur but its still not tight enough< Defffinitely take a picture if you feel that is the case because than something is really facked

You guys have the lock nut backed off and are turning the whole stud right???? You have to back off the "locking" nut than rotate the squared head long nut that goes through the ps mounting bracket "IN' untill the belt has tension

back there???? all the tension bolts for the ps pully are on top.

Unless your issue is only the alternator belt. They are on different pulleys though. One tensioner for PS and one for alternator and AC pump. The alternator and AC pump tensioner bolts is right under the alternator at the front (front of car). You'll see two bolts on one bracket.

i have replaced only the alternator belt at the moment im replacing the p/s tomorrow since i have replace my knock sensor. ill post once everything is finished. Ive checked the tensioner bolt for the alternator and there is no gap between the head of the bolt and the tension bolt bracket, and for the p/s theres about 1/8 of an inch gap. I dont wanna tighten anymore because it feels like im going to break the thing. i just hope its only a bad belt.

Whats up guys.I just bought a 98 lude.My crank shaft pulley was shaking bad so i changed it along with both belts.Everything was working great at first but today my brand new pulley is shaking the same way!(wobbling from left to right)

When i looked at the inside of the old pulley the grooves were pretty much worn all the way down it was nearly smooth to the touch.I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to whats going on exactly.Any help is appriciated.Thx

do you have the mounting bolts on the powersteering pump or alternator at least slightly loose when you're adjusting the tension on the belt?
