Default Can someone help me identify the part that fell out of my car?

i dont have a pic yet, but this is how it looks like. its all metal (and rusted) and there is a metal puck in the middle, this looks like some kind of support for something. its about 10-12 inches long. it was attached by the rubber "thingy" near the cat converter under the engine but i can not tell what exactly this thing supports.. what is it guys and can i drive without it for a little while?

edit: its a '95 accord LX. added pics below, see post #12.

seems to me that it is an exhaust hanger.
Need a real pic to tell you what it is for certain.
This is like charades and hangman in one.

Well if your able to get a pic that will help out a lot.

It sounds to me like its a vibration damper for the exhaust system. A lot of vehicles have these now (and although not neccesary) they reduce harmonics in the exhaust system that can cause rattles.

The piece does have a somewhat large metal "puck" that is surrounded by rubber, and then surrounded by metal that attatches it to the exhaust via a weld or bolt.

It is probably a bracket if it was mounted to the exhaust mounting rubber.

I believe the "puck" peice he is refering to is like #`s 11, 12, 13 and it could be any one of those hangers when you compare his drawing. lol

i think my thing was attached to the #12 but it does not look like #27 at all. i do not see anything that looks like my part on that diagram.
I will take a pic and post it here in a few hours.

???? Perhaps something someone rigged up to avoid replacing some other brace or support? The drawing looks like a simple pulley.

Yes the drawing does look like a pulley of some sort perhaps a come-along. But its just a quick "rendition" of what the OP had seen.
But that is possible, a "AFRO-ENGINEERED" exhaust to keep the original owner from having to replace a costly part.
Who knows, in for pic.

You got me. The picture is even wierder than your illustration. Guesses:1)Something that came off that truck you were following a long time ago. You thought you cleared it but it got wedged under there and blended in with your exhaust components. A V'ger type thing. Only less complex. 2)A tool designed to snap off your cat converter, left under there by those thieves you interrupted that time. 3)A tool for some unknown purpose left under there by some long ago mechanic or welder. 4)A divining rod that is actually a long forgotten navigation system on cars to lead your car to the beach without using a map.5)A part that the Honda people in Marysville fired someone over when it disappeared off the line and was never seen again.

That doesn't look like a Honda part. Did you hear it banging around on the bottom, then see it in your rearview mirror? Is there anything else on the bottom of your car that is rusted out to that magnitude? Do you think it's possible that you ran over someone else's car part and thought it came from your car?

it definitely came from my car. I was driving and i thought i heard a crack, i turn my radio volume down and hear banging noise, i stop look under the car and see this thing hanging on to the rubber piece (that looks like #12 on the diagram above). jack up the car pull the piece out ... and now im like WTH? it does look like "custom" job. LOL

I'm sticking with that being a large hook off the assembly line that birthed your Accord. A weld on the line equipment must have come loose. It was not detected missing until too late too easily find it. Honda determined it would cost over $10 million to find "the" car that got "the" hook and just let the matter slide. You have now found the hook, with 14 years of rust on it.

Im gonna stick with my original theory that it has something to do with a vibration damper of some sort. It also looks like it definatly acts a brace as well. Ive seen things that look like this under alot of vehicles- their attaced to exhaust components, transfer cases, transmission ect. Its just one of those things that the "brilliant" engineers at the factory figured they needed, and we just will never quite understand, lol.

Or of course it could be just a redneck way of trying to fix something, and the person just used whatever parts were available at the time...

I can see myself now crawling under my car tomorrow looking for a metal puck. Mine is 4th Gen. Probably no puck.

That does not look like a Honda part. Have you had any exhaust work done to the car at a independent shop (i.e. Munro, Midas etc) as apposed to taking it to a dealer? It might be an aftermarket mount to the exhaust.
I am sorry to say that you might have ot crawl under or put it on a lift in order to see where it came from. It looked like it was welded onto something so maybe you will get lucky and see where it was welded to via marks
Good luck

It's not a Honda part.

Looks like it's an aftermarket exhaust hanger - maybe from the header where the downpipe is.

The metal disc is probably just a vibration dampener as mentioned above. A ghetto but probably somewhat effective one.

i lifted the car from passenger side and looked under but couldn't tell if it was welded or not. will take a better look this weekend, will take some pics.

guys, why would it need an additional exhaust hanger? im driving without this thing now and there is no rattling or anything... (knock on wood)

It probably isn't additional, one of the OEM ones probably rusted out or something along those lines and that one got tossed on ghetto style
