this guy has an 98 civic hx for sale for pretty cheap and i can pic it up tomorrow. what is the HX? what makes it an hx? are they good?

 

actually my cousin had one of these its got a d16 in it ran good and i say if you can get it for cheap why not

 

economy motor. d16y5. i have one. gives me 42mpg if you know how to drive. slow as heck. someone told me it was a canadian model correct me if im wrong. i love the seats! black ftw

 

If you want a good daily with great mpg, yes

 

HX are nice for daily driver saves gas.

one of my friends said that alot of stuff doesnt match up with the hx as far as motor add ons and the ecu is supposedly different. he said it was "junk" but people say the 1.5 is junk and i know from experience that its a strong motor. any input on this?

 

Do you want a daily, or do you want to mod it?

 

for now i want a good daily but eventually i want to build a y8 and put it in there, as long as i will be able to drop a y8 in there with ease and swap the ecu and be cool then this is the car for me. but if for some reason the mounts are different or something then i shouldnt get this

 

the hx is great if you can get past all the flaws... one being it's basically the red headed stepchild that noone likes to talk about, and two modding is a little more difficult with the y5. I have a 97 and I love it, it's been the best car I've ever owned and come next aug. I will have owned it for 10yrs, when I bought it had 67,568 and now has 177,000 some miles, even with those many miles I still get 40+ mpg regulary. I have not had to do any real major repairs as it's been mainly the normal maintenance. I did have a cv joint boot bust but the dealer had been telling me for years about the cracked boots so I went ahead and swapped out both axles for a set that I bought used on here w/ 45k that came from an ex. I'm still riding on factory clutch too.

You didn't mention but is it a 5 speed or auto? if it's an auto that cvt you do not want and it's pretty much a pos transmission. The hx is a cross breed from a dx and ex, chassis wise and brakes it is a dx, but it has more features like power windows, power locks, power steering and a/c that is standard on the ex model. If I'm not mistaken the hx's only came in three colors black, red and silver, can't speak on the 7th gen ones only 96-00.

oh and mine is a 97 black w/ 5 speed.

it maybe only a y5 but it's still a d series so parts interchangability ftw. It already has vtec so you could easily swap a y8 head on but for me I like my roller rockers that only the y5 has.

 

Make sure your 02 sensor is good. There very expensive.

o yea one thing that really bugs me is the dome light. doesnt turn on when the door is open. theres a way to go around that but i fogot how to do it.

 

make sure that the switch is in the middle, not on the extremities.

Its not. They weren't available in Canada at all actually, although some may have been built in Ontario.
