Default 2001 Honda Accord parts and other assorted questions

Hello Again,

I had a chance to go through my car more this weekend and I wanted to ask some questions to you folks and get some answers.

First off a recap of my car. 2001 Honda Accord EX sedan with 86,853 miles.

Question #1: I was reading in my owners manual and saw that the timing belt replacement time was 105,000 miles or 84 months (7 years) unless the car was driven in 110f or -20f weather all the time in which it was to be replaced at 60,000. (The car is in Maryland in which the weather is at most 100f and at most 0f (rarely) and the car came from Boston area, so I can rule out the 60,000)

I am about 18,000 miles away from the 105,000 mark but past the time limit mark of 84 months (which would have been 2008). Obviously, I will replace the timing belt but I am curious as to what is more detrimental to the life of the timing belt, time or mile wear?

Question #2: I noticed reading the manual that the radio will lock and a code needs to be entered to use it again if power to it is interrupted (i.e. such as changing a dead battery) I have the 6 disc/ tape deck model that is in the EX

How does one get this code as it did not come with the paperwork that I got from the dealership? Is there a magical way to push a button or two on the radio that will display it? Or do I have to yank my radio out and get it by the serial number? Can I simply disable the need for entering the code? Seems like that would be a real pain to deal with if I had to change out the battery and had to go with out a radio(which I use for the traffic report going to work) for a week.

Question #3 Alarm system. The manual states that the EX model (I4 and V6) have an alarm and I have both a blinking red light on the radio and drivers side door near the door lock, How does one arm it? I am use to hearing a chirp when I engage the alarm in previous cars.

Question #4 For some reason I can not find my old post on my car and therefore kindly ask one of you folks (such as P_Adams) if they would post the link for the Honda discount part for me. I want to get those rims

Thanks

Predicting timing belt failure cannot be determined. I have seen factory original belts break at 83k miles (This happened in the Kia loaner cars I let my customers use) and I have seen them break at 200k+ miles. It's best to just change them at their recommended intervals.

Drive your car to the dealer and get the code, it's simple.

Question #3 Alarm system. The manual states that the EX model (I4 and V6) have an alarm and I have both a blinking red light on the radio and drivers side door near the door lock, How does one arm it? I am use to hearing a chirp when I engage the alarm in previous cars.
Most factory alarms don't beep when you arm them by locking the doors with the remote. Most cars have their parking lights flash once when armed and twice when disarmed, but Honda and GM cars generally don't have any indication whatsoever when the alarm is engaged and disengaged. I believe the Accord alarm is armed when you lock the doors, whether with the key or remote. If you want to hear your alarm siren, there's a red button on the remote which is the panic alarm, press that button to hear your cool alarm sounding off. The blinking light on your door lock is your car's alarm and the one on the radio is just an anti-theft indicator for your radio, the two lights are not related.

I'm not a Honda owner, I wouldn't know the answer to this.

#1, city driving is concidered to be extreme driving and puts extra torque to the timing belt on a much more frequent basis and requires a more frequent change interval. Also any oil leaking into the timing cover shortens belt life.
