Default Sppon lsd tranny, what should it feel like when turning

So now that the car is running i am just wondering i know that because of the limited slip there should be a little bit of clunking when i take tight turns at low speeds. The previous owner told me that it would do it and he said to just to press the clutch on tight turns. But it seems like it is doing it too much. I can't make any turns at any speed without it clunking when it is in gear. If any of you guys has any experience, could you tell me what i should be expecting. I am wondering if maybe it is a bad cv joint. But how can i tell the difference.

Ha i just realized i spelled Spoon wrong, so you guys who are gettin ready to post about that just hold your horses

Did the guy just tell you its a Spoon LSD, yO...or did you see the LSD in the tranny or see the bill from a shop?

Could it be a Spool...not Spoon?

no he told me, he kept talkin about how it had a genuine spoon lsd transmission put in he told me it cost him 2500 including having a shop put it in for him. He said after he got it he thought something was wrong so he took i back and they said that it was fine that is how it is supposed to be. But i was expecting like a little clicking around tight turns but like there is no way to turn (i mean anything more than a 1/8 of a turn of the wheel) without it feeling like my u joints are about to just snap off. It just doesn't seem like anyone in there right mind would drive like this. It sounds like sh#$ from the outside to like the car is fallin apart i mean if this is how it actually works im thinkin about takin it out and makin it stock... does anyone know how much the stock stuff would cost me parts alone to put in there. For me this is basically a daily driver alot of city miles i just can't drive in the city and parking lots like this.

i dont know how a "spoon" limited slip is but i have a stock jdm b16 tranny that came with the quaife lsd already installed and it drives/sounds like a regular tranny without lsd.... that is except when i dump the clutch or take off quick in 1st or 2nd, as soon as my turbo spools im leaving 2 tire marks on the ground instead of 1.
you might have got screwed and dude sold you a **** tranny but idk about "spoon's" lsd

Talking without proof in the Honda world = Just talking 99% of the time.

I would put $100 that you have a stock transmission with no LSD.

As for a full Spoon transmission with an LSD...I can't recall them making any FWD transmissions...only for the S2000. And when I say "Spoon making transmissions", they just rebuild them...no special stuff, just rebuilt by Spoon.

So then your saying it is my cv joints? i thought it could be them so i put the car on jack and ran it in 2nd, then i turned the tires left and right. This is the only way i can think if to tell the difference between whether it was lsd causing it or cv joints, but i got no noise whatsoever. I think he meant when he said a spoon transmission that he had the kit installed, and yes i know he said spoon i actually have spoon in writing from him. Lets just assume this guy is telling the truth. I know you guys are skeptical of that but so far whenever i say something on here everybody says that he was lying about no matter what it was and so far I haven't found a thing he said to me that wasn't true. So please just humor me and assume this guy was telling the truth and then it does have a spoon lsd kit installed. If your gonna get on here and tell me the guy was lying and stuff please don't because i don't want this thread to turn into an argument over whether the previous owner was full of crap or not. In the little bit of research i have done i have heard they are known for being pretty noisy and clunky. But i don't understand the advantage of this at all because even at high speed turns slight turns it still is clunking and stuff. I think I may need to find someone who knows what it should feel like to drive it.

Also i have heard that it is really not a god idea for the daily driver. So lets say i decide to take the lsd kit out does anyone know what stock parts i would need to replace that were taken out when the kit was put in. Also is this clunking bad ie going to do damage i would assume so but there is no way that i have found to make it not clunk when i am turning.

If you do infact have a Spoon LSD in your tranny, then you may want to consider changing the transmission oil out for something else.

my friends car had one and it sounded like his CV joint was toast everytime he would turn the wheel and give it gas. drained the fluid out and replaced it with Cusco LSD gear oil/tranny fluid and it solved the problem completely...silent LSD after that.

give it a shot, but the Cusco diff fluid is quite $$$

we had a kid at the shop put a kaaz lsd and it sounded the way ur saying. he had put honda tranny fluid,we replaced it with another oil. can remeber what it was but it helped it with the clicking. and yes is still made the clunking noise whiled it turned but he was ok with it.

I think i may replace the fluid with something mote high performance like your saying, The transmission only has like 2-300 miles on it, but i don't know what they put in it. I was kinda messing around with it today and i found out basically if i just really hammer the turns giving it a ton of gas it doesn't do it. It really goes against your basic instinct to hit the gas harder when it makes a noise like that. I will tell you this much when i hit the gas hard it feels like it is glued to the road and it easily burns rubber on dry pavement from a stop so it must be working right. I just didn't know how to drive it correctly i guess.

Bro, you are NOT alone. I work at Japan Direct in Raleigh,NC and I just got a swap. My dad actually is one of the owners and goes over to Japan and hand picks all the product we ship over, including my gsr swap. I originally had the gsr tranny but my dad offered me an S4C LSD transmission instead as the costs for us were similar and obviously i opted for the LSD. This tranny has the LSD factory ink stamp on the casing but when looking through the differential its obvious this is not a stock honda LSD. Inside the axle hole it sort of tapers down in size. We thought nothing of this during the install and afterwards i go to drive it and BAMMM all the EXACT same noises you are talking about. We are going to try using that CUSCO LSD fluid to see if it reduces the noise or eliminates it but as for now it sounds ridiculous. I have no idea if this is what its supposed to be like or not but its exactly what you describe.
