sohc header, how much difference?
i dont know if ill get in trouble making new threads with similar questions but here we go anyway, if i get a megan racing header for my d16, how much power difference will it do? or if there is any difference at all.
or you can just dig a hole in the ground to work in and drive over top of it. i prefer takin it to my shop and puttin it up on the lift tho.
anyway, which d16 are we referring to here? z6? y7? y8?

sure:
1. jack up the car. if you have jack stands, use them.
2.if you still have a splash shield under the front of the car(i dont) remove it or just pull it out of the way.
3. make sure the exhaust it cool to the touch so you dont burn yourself and locate everything holding it on. there should be 2 spring bolts at the cat, two nuts on a hanger behind the oil pan, and like ten nuts at the exhaust flange. i think there also might be one in the front/bottom of the block, this one can be completely removed because your new header will not have a hanger there.
4. remove all the nuts/spring bolts and put them in a little magnetic tray so you dont lost them. "i was too cheap to buy one, so i have a blown subwoofer magnet on a small cookie tray lol"
5. the factory mani is two pieces, but i never had to undo the center portion. just make sure the car is up high enough and drop the whole thing out the bottom. it is gonna take some wiggling and cursing but it does fit.
6. your new header is probably also a two piece design, if not ignore steps 7 & 11. put the new exhaust mani gasket(prob came with the header) on the studs and slide the top portion of the hearer on after. put the nuts back on so it doesn't fall off, but leave them loose for now.
7. back under the car. the center portion has its own gasket(or at least it should) put the gasket between the two halves and install the three (new)bolts that hold the section together. again leave them kinda loose for now
8. bring the end of the header to the cat. it should have a donuts style led gasket. put that on the end and stick it to the cat. spring bolts can be a pain in the dick sometimes but throw those on there now
9. if the header has a spot for the hanger with the two nuts, put that on now. if it doesn't, **** it, you dont need 'em.
10. tighten the manifold nuts so it seals real good. there is always that one that is a pain to get to cuz there is a tube in the way. dont get discouraged, just curse alot and keep at it. a swivel helps
11. tighten the center three bolts so that its nice and tight
12 put up you front engine splash(if you have it)
13. with the car back on the ground, let it run for a while. this will let you hear/see any leaks. alo of time the coating on the header will start to burn off now, dont worry your car is not burning down when you see a little smoke, just keep the hood up for now
14. shut it down, let it cool off and check for leaks at the gaskets. if you find a leak, tighten the nut/bots accordingly
15. no leaks? do a burnout.

You can do it yourself, its a really easy job. All you need is basic tools, jack stands, and a jack. Give it a shot. It'll probably be a little time consuming because it's your first time tinkering with the car but you'll never know until you try.
I think it will be within somewhere within 3-5 hp and it will be at higher RPM like 4000. I would get a Catback if you go with the header that way you gain a little of your mid range back.
im pretty sure not everyone in the world is implanted with car knowledge and it is just i dont want to fck it up and do a bad job, and im also sure that your two year old brother wont be able to do it.
in the switchover to vbulletin half of the thread was gone. it should still help some though.

its pretty easy and straightforward to install a header. also, set aside $80 for a new O2 sensor before you get started because the stock one might be siezed in the OEM header.
you're also gonna throw a cel because your catalytic converter (needed to pass inspection in most states) is in your header, so if you replace your header, you will not pass inspection. i would suggest converting your entire exhaust to EX spec (seperate header/ converter) and getting an o2 sensor extension from passwordjdm
this morning my dad actually told me not to replace it since in 2 years my engine will probly break down, he said just to wait and get a whole swap instead. so im just going to save money and get abetter engine with all the other parts.
well still i would get your exhaust system and cat now, since i'm 99% sure they are body-specific instead of engine-specific like a header is. then if you do get an ls swap for instance, you will be able to bolt it right up to your existing exhaust. if you look hard enough you can find a ws2 for under 400 and a magnaflow cat with flanges already welded on for under 120
